So what is the consensus on the best thing you should do if you are in Justin's situation? Cause a 'scene' when they are trying to take you to the backroom? Act calm and peaceful, but try to head for the exit which will make the security use more force in order to backroom you? If already backroomed, deny showing ID, continue asking if you are detained and if you can go, have the police take you to the station and get finger printed?

Do not cash out. Head to the exit. If they block your way, say you would like to leave. If physical force is threatened or implied, state that you are complying under threat if physical force.

Do not consent to a search. Refuse ID. Record all if possible. If police are called and ask for ID, ask if you are being arrested or suspected of committing a crime. If arrested, you must now show ID. Ask that ID not be shared with the casino, which it orobably will be. Do not argue, do not push. Everything you do is designed to protect t your physical well being, protect your constitutional rights, display those rights being violated, if that is in fact the case, and overall, present a series of facts that will enable your lawyer to present the strongest possible case.

It isn't illegal to not carry ID for most activities other than driving, including gambling. What I don't understand is how you can be legally required to produce ID if you're not even legally required to carry an ID?

It's Baltimore City law. They can't charge you with not carrying ID but it will get you a trip to the station and detention until you can have your ID verified or 24 hours is up. At 24 hours they have to charge you with something or release you.

Here's the problem: what's legal and legally required can become fuzzy or grey. I am sure you have read Grosgean's account of his '24 hours' in jail, which turned into 4 1/2 days because of a combination of a Friday night booking (can't see judge until Monday) and because he refused to give his real name and didn't have ID on him. He spent extra days in jail just waiting for the FBI to identify him via fingerprints.
