Anyone saw last night's Elementary on CBS?

Interesting story involving Blackjack. A casino chain wants to build a casino at an Indian Reservation in Virginia. It turns out the map is inaccurate. The best spot is not in the Indian reservation. The land owner murdered two people in the process. To uncover the truth, Sherlock Holmes has to go to the largest casino in New York that the chain owns and secretly taped the Blackjack table. Sherlock and his assistant analyzed the tape and discovered a few Kings and Queens are missed in the shoe so Sherlock used the information to blackmail the casino owner who is also the New York State gaming commissioner to cooperate. It is quite funny that the mainstream media thinks big casinos took out few face cards so casinos can win more.

It works for little casinos also. Fewer tens favor the casino.

His assistant has taped for hours. Always missing some kings and queens.

Um, folks...we are talking a TV show here. Hollywood. Usually very little correlation with reality.

But, in my opinion this type of situation is more likely to occur in a less regulated or self regulated Indian casino than a corporate type casino somewhere like Vegas. The 'erosion' of regulations and patron rights is why I have not gone out of my way to play Indian Casinos despite better rules. I mean those better rules or great penetration isn't as attractive if a few 10's/Aces are missing, are they?

If you are in "play all" Native venues in my area and can get away with camping out, it's wise to watch the "spreads and washes" before play. I usually don't have the luxury of having that much time, however.

For that matter, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Holmes also made ridiculous leaps of logic.

Native American casinos that don't spread the cards, use the same cards, etc. leave things wide open for whatever. I've been in these casinos in which upon opening up the table they break out a plastic bag with the (used) cards in them. They don't spread them face up. There is no way to verify that they are using complete decks with these procedures. I'm not saying they are "adjusting" deck composition to their favor, I'm merely saying they could easily do it and no one would ever know the difference using these procedures.

Even if they spread the cards, they are upside down so whose to say they couldn't substitute small cards for bigger cards to conplete the decks?

But if every shoe only misses kings and queens, not tens and jacks, it is almost certain casino cheats.

This casino is dumb. They should have taken equal amounts of ten, jack, queen and king.

Most native casinos that I have been to do in fact spread the cards and spread them face up, or both face up and face down. I cannot recall a table opening where I have not seen this done, but if Tarzan says so then in isolated cases I would believe it is true.
