Active Shooter on Las Vegas Strip near Manalay Bay

It looks pretty bad. Two dead and at least 24 wounded.

I was driving about 1030pm south on the 15, alongside the strip, and police-type cars were flying down the freeway. These weren't regular police cars like metro, highway patrol, etc., but they were big trucks, suburbans, sedans, etc. which appeared to be the "more important law enforcement" types, with their lights going but appeared to be unmarked. It looked like they were getting off on Tropicana or Russel perhaps. I figured sh** was going down, but I didn't expect it to be something this gnarly, damn. It looked like traffic completely stopped on 15 going northbound, around Russel or Tropicana.

Word of mouth says there have been unconfirmed reports of shootings in other casinos on the strip, including Caesars, Aria, Linq, Luxor, Bellagio, maybe Flamingo, as well as a possible car bomb at Luxor.

My friend who lives near a hospital said the hospital is busy as all hell.

At this point, they're saying the death toll is up to over 50 dead, over 200 injured, consisting of a lone shooter from the 32nd floor of Mandalay Bay shooting into a crowd at a concert.

I hate watching media coverage on shootings. Their discussions on the ammunition and other basics is totally wrong. What I am seeing now is them trying to explain why some bullets go thru multiple targets and why others expend all their energy on impact. Their explanations are wrong. They should be explaining that military ammunition is designed to wound as it was determined a long time ago that a wounded soldier is more of a liability to the enemy than a dead soldier so metal jacketed ammo was designed to pass thru targets wile expending little energy and doing minimal damage to the target or deformation of the projectile. Hunting ammunition is, in general, designed to expend all its energy on the target by causing massive trauma with a bullet that is designed to deform as it passes thru the target. The rest of the reporting is just as inaccurate and/or biased to a political agenda.

Just think of the Kennedy assassination. The last bullet was different than the ones that preceded it. The preceding bullets were full metal jacket and designed to pass thru their target. The head shot was a very soft bullet, possibly a mercury filled hollow-point designed to vaporize both the bullet and whatever it hit on impact by expending all its energy on impact. Everyone has seen how Kennedy's head literally exploded on impact but the other bullets didn't do much damage.

Sad. I wonder what this will do for future tourism on the strip.

T3, if you hate watching media, why are you? Be it BJ or guns and ammo, you know better. There is no need to watch those talking heads.

58 dead and over 515 injured with many in critical condition.

A viscous bell weather event that will change how you behave on the strip.

Very sad sign of our times...........................
Luck is nothing more than probability taken personally!

Anymore details on the shooter? Was he a veteran? Was he in personal trouble?

Slots and VP player for fairly high stakes. I haven't heard anything about any bans. He lived in a retirement community in Mesquite, was comfortable financially, and doesn't appear to have had any trouble with the law.
