    First time into a casino

We're currently having a trip into the center of the fun in Las Vegas. And we'll hit the casino tonight, so for a non-experienced first time playing. What do we need to prepare. I guess we'll be playing just for fun and don't care much about win or lose.

Then you don't need to worry about anything.

However, if you want to stretch your dollar, don't play any BJ where blackjack pays 6:5 (3:2 is what it should be). Worst table game is roulette.

barry: 21forme meant to say don't play Blackjack that pays 6:5. That is a terrible game. Make sure it pays 3:2.

One of the worst games in the casino, if memory serves, is also that newer one where they spin a giant wheel with different amounts on it. Apparently the odds on that thing are criminally (well, not quite I suppose) terrible. Best bets in the place are blackjack with perfect basic strategy (you can even buy cards with that on it in most casino gift shops, or print off the internet) and craps if you're "playing the line" (that's the right term, right? I don't play craps, just hearsay). Also some video poker machines if you're playing perfect strategies on those things, but that can be more complex and less "fun" for a first time (plus you have to hunt for the machines with the right payouts, and often those only exist in the high limit slots rooms).

Have fun! Don't take more than you're willing to lose. Better yet, have the mindset of planning to lose it.

Agreed! Look on blackjack tables' felt for the words "BLACKJACK PAYS 3 TO 2".

Buy a basic strategy card. Go to a casino store and ask for something called a basic strategy card. Set it next to you with your chips & follow it exactly.

Ideally you want to memorize the Basic Strategy chart but since this is your first time you may use the following logic.

    1. When dealer's up card is good, i.e. 7, 8, 9, T, A, you want to limit your loss to one hand. You have to hit your 12, 13, 14, 15. If you have 16, you may gamble either way (hit or stand).

    2. When dealer's up card is bad, i.e. 3, 4, 5, 6, you may want to expand your one hand to multiple hands via doubling or splitting. But never risking your winning hands like splitting two face cards.

    3. Two is tricky, when you have 12, you may hit or stand, especially against dealer upcard 2 or 3.

No need to memorize it this time (or ever, if you don't want to), just buy or print a card, then you can play error-free.

True, but I know a forum member (reincarnated) who got backed off from the Big 6 wheel.
