An initial off the top small house edge doesn't always equate to the best games.

Where I play, many a DD game is dealt out of a shoe. Yes, number of decks may make a difference but how it’s dealt does not.

Really not easy on this forum to keep topics concise. Most posters remind me of people calling on radio shows just to ear themselves talk....

Essentially do as I say. Not as I do.
I can teach you how to make it, even though I made it by luck....

It makes for a better story than, "I started with 2K, overbet my BR, and busted out." That wouldn't fill a chapter, let alone a book.

Unrealistic? What are you talking about? Most professional succesful card counters I know started with a small bankroll and overbetting.

Isn’t that essentially gambling and hope for luck to strike? Isn’t that the what every APs preach not to do?

Pretty much. Regardless, I think a lot Of us start playing before we can even count, let alone understand the fundamentals of bankroll management. In the beginning, I had no concept of proper ramping, depending instead on old fashioned models which are now known to be woefully incorrect.

Progress from there is a different story.

I did. But then at some point I learned to trust the math. And bring enough to casinos to have proper ramp and ror.

I standby what I said in the beginning, there are people who can do it, who will keep on doing it. Who can’t hack it then start teaching it.

I want someone who practice on a regular basis and who actually immerse in doing ap, not someone who charges a fee to teach what he did 10 years ago.

I also have problem with people who are preaching “do as I say, not as I do....”

In short, he won’t get my money.

Basically what I was getting at - my father lost his eyesight, he loved the casino, so I started driving him. I was pissed at losing 20 or 30 or 40 dollars. I’d heard about counting, and started searching in earnest when 8 lost $65. It was also a great time to really learn about what my dad was all about.

I researched and read and read. Accumulated several decks, numbering them 1 thru 312, bought a shoe, and practiced hi lo in my den - dealing decks less 3 or 5 cards And then determined all the possible hi card, neutral and low card Combinations. I read and practiced some more.

I was encouraged by someone to try halves, did so and repeated the process above. I seasoned myself thru lots of play, had the benefit of quality red chip games. Remained at that level far beyond the point I could have moved up in stakes. The reason for that was to stay under radar. In due course, red chip conditions Worsened, and at 85k bankroll moved to green chip mins.

Long story short - any one so motivated does not need Colin. Certain attributes are however, required for success. I was fortunate in that I never needed Blackjack to pay bills, and so I reinvested all profits into bankroll growth.

Even if I had the skills and bankroll to go pro as a young man, I don’t believe I would have done so. Got married, had kids and I didn’t want to spend long periods of time away from home. Blackjack has been a fun and profitable past time as well as a challenge on what others have described as mindless.
