40-1 is really being a pig but MAYBE you could get away with that if it looks like you're pressing, pissed off your losing or whatever
But then dropping back down to one bet on the shuffle is just throwing it in their face. don't do that.Bet even 10 units off the top, give up a little ev and gradually ramp it down.If you lost the last hand maybe even 5 units. But 1? That's really bad.
Or even better just color up, take a little break and then play at another table or even better another pit afterwards and start out betting a few units off the top. This is ESPECIALLY true when using a 40-1 spread. Try and make it not look like 40-1.

As for them not caring what you do- that may be true (starting not to sound like that.) But even if it's true, it's true until it isn't. If you said you don't care about the store then screw it, be greedy until they back you off. But you said it's the only game in town. They've left you alone so treat it with respect. If I'm in Vegas in some place I don't care about that doesn't have sister properties I'm worried about i'm gonna spread a lot bigger than a place that's a short drive away that I'm gonna put in a lot more hours in each year.

Is the lost ev of say a 10 unit bet off the top worth being backed off your main local store?

So people were giving me crap for using a 1:4 spread and using small trip win goals (+4, +8, +12 units which are often met without raising my bet or were quickly met during a + count after which I quickly left while still in a + count) at the local casino I visit weekly and am milking for comps?

FWIW, I don’t usually use 40:1. It was just that the table min was lower than I usually play and I dropped all the way down to it from a max bet. Now that I know they’re paying attention, I won’t do that.

Hmm, it's dumb and stupid to milk ONE store by playing in a manner that keeps a small edge and might delay or avoid a back off there. And it's also dumb and stupid to play in that same store in a manner that will not avoid a back off there.

You can't have your cake and eat it too. Oh, but BoSox does not like cake, BoSox likes sour grapes...never mind...

Here's another dumb stupid picture for you BoSox.

Don’t take it to the extreme, the optimum option is between 1:4 and 1:40... you seem to only like extremes... good luck maximizing your wins that way.

Well, apparently you are not having your cake and eating it either. You win 5 or 6 units and you wong out of plus counts and head for the door. Those free comps that you are getting must be out of this world. Could you please insert the picture in post #15 for me as in now I am applying it to you?

Not including the one place I am milking, my spreads vary from 1:8 to 1:20 depending on the min bet of the table. There are just shy of 30 casinos within a 6 hour drive from me to spread my play, so it might be a year or 18 months before I return to a specific location. I don't use trip goals at the others, so there are plenty of opportunities to maximize wins.

Milking one location is not the end of the world as errantly perceived by my critics. What's wrong with playing for comps at one place? Nothing. Many APs do it.

Some members in this forum just can't handle it if you don't play their way.

Do they really do that? Black Jack Apprenticeship bans members from forum access after a certain amount of time?

That's really shady, given such users would have the most experience and knowledge to share.

No, they ban those who suggest caution in turning pro or suggest that success at local casinos in first year is not sufficient to make career decisions, that travel to play is a different animal. They prevent anyone sharing that they quit full time play or that it’s not as easy as it used to be, etc. Its a rah rah site.
