In honor of “preserving the win”.

Normally, when taking a trip, I have a general figure in mind...win enough to cover expenses plus about $1k for a 3 day, 20-25 hour actual playing time. Get to that goal, quit, enjoy having a pleasant trip back.

Unfortunately, I heard others and played. I was up $2k after 16 hours of playing time, should have quit. I lost $2200 in a good DD game with good penetration but the cards were awful, Dealer seemed to always beat me by one, make hands where she should have busted.

Now, I am sitting at airport, getting ready for trip home, feeling like crap, feeling I wasted 4 days I could have spent at home with family. If only I had packed it in and not played today.

One insight, real full time AP’s just wanna get the hours in, their goal is the long run. For the part-time recreational players, each single day is a goal of its own. You preserve wins so you could sleep good, feel good as many days as possible. I normally don’t allow myself to lose more than $1500 in any single day.

    Just an impulsive rant....

As previously confirmed by DS, stop losses per shoe DO reduce ROR, and as asserted by me and corroborated by DS...hourly win rate. Additionally, as supported by sim data, trip win goals also reduce ROR. So, contrary to the misinformed belief and distain of many of the posters on this forum, there is nothing wrong with employing shoe stop losses and trip win goals to reduce ROR if you are willing to accept the corresponding reduction in hourly win rate...let the berating begin assholes.

    Zee.

For the love of Pete. You've got to start separating the correctness of your decisions from their results. "should have quit" is bullshit; no less so than ploppies saying they should have stood on their 12 vs. 10 because they busted. Only after the fact can you know what the result would be.

This goofy game of ours is about making the right decisions given limited information and being OK with the result, confident that we made the right decisions. You made the right decision - quit beating yourself up about it!

Why is this your hobby? I don't get it.

Its a hobby because it is not necessary and I don’t play full time or pay bills with the wins.

The “right decision” varies with each person and the outcome they seek. The full time AP seeks to enhance/increase his income. The recreational player plays to increase his happiness and plays to supplement income without adding additional stress ( which defeats his goal of a happy/content) and thus plays according to his comfort level. Thus, as Wave indicates, variance.

    Optimus Prime,
Don't even fall for it...he is a troll. Don't try to help him anymore.
He already knows, but he just keeps on with the same voodoo. Just ignore him. He can't be helped.

At least you didn't write "should of quit." That's the only thing I'm going to say. it's all been said too many times before.

If you can't handle a measly $200 trip loss, which is what I read 2000 minus 2200 as, then you need to find a hobby other than AP Blackjack. Had you won the additional 2200 for plus 4200 instead, I'm sure you would have written about an "incredible trip" instead.

Thanks, it is what it is, I am back home. I just don’t like the feeling of a loss after 4 days on a trip, hours driving back and that is why the rant.

I just finished my last trip of the year and probably playing 200+ hours for a measly $200 or $1 an hour this year. My worst year in 6+.

Actually, I did better in my trips but got seduced into playing too many hours at a deeply dealt, penetration 5.5, 6 deck game dealt through an ASM in a particular local casino. On this site, I cannot go into it. In any case, it was just a rant..
