Brick: Continuous Shuffle Machines are taking a huge downfall.

I am pleased to tell everyone(including casino employees)that upon a recent road trip' several casinos have completely done away with the csm. Many others have cut down the usage of them.
I remember several years ago reading posts about how great they were. Most of these post were from these self-proclaimed card counters(yeah,,right). It appears that we get the last laugh.

Norm Wattenberger: Romance of the Biaze tables

It?s difficult to argue with success. LV continues to grow and the casinos continue to make money. Then again, sub-prime lenders could have made the same claims up until a couple months ago.

We are starting to see serious weakness in AC casino profits due to slot havens appearing in Pennsylvania. At some point casino owners have to realize why people go to casinos. If you want to bet the lottery ? it?s everywhere. If you want slot machines; they are spreading. What LV has is the romance of ?real gambling.? Of felt tables with human dealers. I?ve said this before. Would they have put James Bond in a casino playing a slot machine? Wouldn?t that be a romantic scene. Yes slots and other mechanical machines make the money. But it is the human mano-a-mano competition that draws people hundreds or thousands of miles to throw away their money. In 1957 the Hepburn/Tracy movie ?Desk Set? understood the problem with removing humans completely from the equation. As a life-time believer in technology ? I think businesses most always realize the dangers of depending too much on a ?good thing.?

Michael Low: will the rules get better?

Now it's hard to find a game with standing on all 17s, DAS,
surrender, dealing five out six decks, etc. in Las Vegas unless you have a huge bankroll.

But it's a step in the right direction.

Con-men come and go; Vegas is forever.

Only time will tell. Hope I'm still young enough to sit at a table and see the cards.

Here is a positive story along these lines .. the BJ in my neigborhood requires a rake per hand to play. When new, if you can imagine, they were racking, and sweating, a CSM or a 4.5/6 ASM game. Now, a couple years later and spreading everyday, you can generally play CSM and rake free from 10:00PM to 2:00AM. Course you are the only guy there and all eyes are on you, but hey, it's a start.

All I can figure are the civilians, in their ignorance, are not total fools.

MGM has already taken him from playing Baccarat to Texas Hold 'Em. It wouldn't surprise me!

Probably the reason that casinos have removed CSMs are:
    1. They have replaced 3:2 BJ CSM games with 6:5 1D games
    2. They have introduced "smart tables" that have made CSMs unnecessary
    3. They have changed the rules (H17, no DAS, etc.) to compensate

Don't forget that casinos have to RENT these machines. If the cost of the rental is higher than the additional profits, the casino is wise to dump them.

On the other hand, notice that the probable reasons for getting rid of the machines all make the game WORSE for the player (and the counter).

    Replies appreciated.

But not worse than the CSM. Reasonably speaking, what could be worse than that? I'd take H17, NDAS or possibly even 6:5 SD over a CSM any day.

    > 2. They have introduced "smart tables" that have made CSMs unnecessary.

I never quite understood this comparison originally. They brought in smart tables for what smart tables could do -not neccessarily as a reaction to or a replacement for CSMs, seems to me.

If CSMs are on the outs I think it is simply because because they are no longer profitable. Would be interesing to know the difference in cost to lease of a CSM and an ASM. If similiar, it would be reasonable to infer that CSMs are on the outs simply because people are growing tired of playing against them.
