Based on the data available, we all (or most of us, anyway) agree that there is very little value from an EV point of view for learning more indices than Catch 22 & Fab 4. However, is there any value in learning additional indices to reduce the variance (i.e. not doubling 9 vs. 3, not splitting 66 vs. 2)?

BJA3 states in Chapter 10 that learning additional indices increases the SCORE by 5-10%. Is this increase mostly due to the reduced variance, which ultimately allows a greater unit size for equal risk-of-ruin?
