    MGP: BJMath is officially dead

The site has unfortunately degenerated to a spam board.

I'm writing to let anyone in the Workshop there know that that will be closing as well and to check there for the details.

I guess not all good things can last forever.

I just logged on to www.bjmath.com, and everything came up just fine.

It is closing. A shame in many senses as one hates to see a previously good source go away. But, I'm tired of the gross porno posted there by auto-bots that I recieve as a subscriber. Life goes on.

Richard sold ths site some time ago. He has announced that, as of July 31, he is closing the Workshop. I saw nothing to indicate that the rest of the site was closing, which I doubt.

In their current state, the other boards are worthless, but the Table of Contents is still very, very valuable.

I agree about the table of contents, but even dead things can be useful. There isn't any interaction in the references.

I just thought it was sad to be at the point where I'm removing it from my links.

Do you or RGE21 have contingency plans to retain the archive in the (possibly unlikely) event that the sites closes completely? I wouldn't like to think the archive could just close down for good, as you say it is invaluable.
A lot of good gambling information has disappeared off the web since its inception, and it tends to do so at a moment's notice, hence my concern.

I think the only way to do it would be to save each file individually. Based on the actions, and lack of actions, of the new site owner I doubt he would just give a backup copy to another site. So unfortunately it's probably gone if he ever shuts it down completely.

When the domain purchase deal first went through we offered to archive the library and host the Workshop. Unfortunately, credulous politics kicked in and the offer fell through. If the opportunity ever arises, RGE would be very happy to offer free space and bandwidth to any static and/or interactive components of the site, hands-off (e.g. completely autonomous moderation and upkeep).

For the record, I've received comparable offers to the rumored purchase price of BJmath.com and turned them down. I feel the content and value of AP.com, like BJmath, is the result of contributions by countless people, and would not feel right selling it out. That won't stop us from pimping our books and services, but I feel some sense of responsibility to our contributors. This is not a criticism of Richard, who has contributed far more to blackjack than I ever will, but my personal opinion on the issue.

    Good Cards,

    V
