The Video Poker Edge: How to Play Smart and Bet Right by Linda Boyd ($17.95; 150 pages) is a beginner?s guide to the world of advantage video poker. Thus far, only Dan Paymar?s Video Poker ? Optimum Play has been a worthwhile beginner?s book, so it?s nice to have another to fill the void while awaiting Viktor?s video poker book with Jean Scott. Boyd?s book has just enough detail to really explain the math without scaring away those who might not understand the complicated formulas behind them. It also includes tear-out strategy cards that you can take with you to a casino or use while practicing at home.

Just in time for the World Series of Poker, Two Plus Two Publishing has released a couple of important poker books. Harrington on Hold?em: Expert Strategy for No-Limit Tournaments, Volume III: The Workbook (whew, say that five times fast!) by Dan Harrington and Bill Robertie ($29.95; 350 pages) is the third book in this popular series. This title tests how well you grasped the principles of the first two volumes, with special attention to playing after the flop.

Arguably the most important poker book to be published in the last year, No Limit Hold?em: Theory and Practice by David Sklansky and Ed Miller ($29.95; 310 pages) promises to be the definitive text on the game. Taking a theoretical approach, it covers critical concepts like manipulating the pot size, adjusting correctly to stack sizes, winning the battle of mistakes, reading hands, and manipulating opponents into playing badly. It breaks this complex game down with thorough and easy to follow analyses and is the ideal read for anyone looking to improve their cash game or tournament play.

Roulette Spins DVD Set is available as a set of four DVDs ($100) or 8 DVDs ($150), and consists solely of spins on a modern, low-fret, John Huxley single-zero roulette wheel (the most common worldwide). A multitude of conditions are presented, so you can practice your timings, spotting biases, looking for dealer signature, and more. Each DVD is one hour long, all results are called out, and the overhead coverage will let you see exactly what is happening, spin after spin.

Last, but not least, is Laurance Scott?s republished Professional Roulette Prediction: Volume 1 ? Basic Methods ($79 on sale right now; 150 pages). Previously known as ?How to Beat Roulette,? the book has been updated and information on single-zero wheels has been added. It presents Scott?s time-tested visual method for beating the wheel in an easy to understand format, covering the very basics of frequently asked questions as well as the mathematical formulas needed to calculate your exact edge and strategy implementation. Is also available bundled with Laurance?s Companion and Practice Videos and his Biased Wheel Report for a reduced bundle price.
