    After increasing the resolution on the Settings tab, go to the Appearance tab and in the Font Size and choose either large or extra large fonts. This will have the effect of keeping your text about the same size as it is now (only much smoother), and making everything else smaller so there is more room on the screen.

    Also, if/when you do decide to replace your monitor, a flat-panel display is superior for reading text. And unlike CRT monitors, when you buy a 17" flat panel that is what you get. :-)
