Hey Guys - Assistance and Guidance

    Hey ladies/gentlemen,

I'm new here judging by my post count. Im wondering whether or not someone can point me in the right direction of learning to be a Professional Blackjack player. I have a £1,000 bank roll and I really would like to learn the abbreviations of the whole game. I know perfect blackjack stratedgy and i play with 6/8 decks.

    Regards

Seriously? 1000 pound bank roll and you want to play professionally? You say you play with 6-8 decks but you obviously aren't playing with a full deck!

We probably need a standard way of responding to this question. A blog entry, article, thread, something to point to. One must read a great deal and £1,000 won’t do is a start. But, we need something with more meat on it. Any thoughts?

If you had read anything on blackjack you'd know that a £1000 bankroll is insufficient to play blackjack. It is enough to be an occasional player while holding a real job. Study up. Blackjack is a slow grind at low percentage win rates using large numbers of hands and large amounts of money, it's not a get rich quick scheme for small bankrolls. If you want to support yourself on a small bankroll you need to find games with a bigger edge than blackjack or just plain be willing to take a shot with your money (while holding a real job) and hope to get lucky but realize you're probably going to bust out. Small bankrolls just cannot support the drain that personal expenses creates.

I have a real job, im an engineer on about 2,9k a month. I could rephrase my first post and say 1k as a bank roll is an example and i could be playing £2 a hand. the 1k bank roll is to learn the ins and outs and learn the side which i've seen alot of people talk about on here. Where as the amount I have isn't important, the stratedgy and the ability to learn and progress is.

I would like to learn it and progress as a Blackjack player. Reading and learning is what i'd kindly do to progress. When i stated Professional blackjack player I simply mean make maybe £15.00 a day. I'd be happy with this, whilst im saving for a much higher stable bank roll.

Ideas of threads and books i should read before entering this industry maybe? rather then flames (first post), thankyou.

    Thanks for the help

    Regards,

A paltry £1,000 bankroll is [perhaps] 1/10 of what you need to get started.
You are obviously playing in England, where the games are less than inviting.
You speak of playing "professionally", but how much do you think you (may)
be able to earn with a £10,000 bank roll ?
Not nearly what you are earning legitimately. That is for certain.

Less than inviting, please go into detail. Is this because of rules/conditions? With 10k, by the sounds of things, not that much. But a steady realistic sum of 100 a day would go a long way. Please could people give examples of your starting bankrolls and daily winning averages/losses?

Therein lies the problem. There is nothing "steady" about Blackjack. Although the advantage is in your favor when counting cards, the variance will cause long periods of losses. That's the reason you need a bankroll.

Thank you. I understand that they is no steadiness in gambling what so ever, thus it not being a gamble. I see many abbreviations in these forums and would like a hindsight in them. When card counting what would you guys class a low and high count, postivive 20 and negative 20? or even higher variance. Do you guys manipulate your bets with lets say 1 unit being £10.00 and at a high count you double your unit til the count is in the negatives?

I've seen the term "spread 1-10" being used alot, does this refer to 1 hand of a stake between the amount of 1-10 pound? How much would you max your bet or multiply from your initial unit bets.

    Cheers.

Every question will lead to five more. You need to read. I have a free book at http://qfit.com/book/ModernBlackjackPage-10.htm. If you want a shorter book, try Knock-Out Blackjack by Vancura and Fuchs.

    Suggestions:

    1) read three quality books about BJ, such as Blackjack Blueprint by Blaine, Professional Blackjack by Wong
and Blackbelt in Blackjack by Snyder, among others. We can advise on other titles
    2) buy Casino Verite software for practice (and/or Advantage Blackjack app for your phone)
    3) continue saving(investing?) a bankroll(BR) until you can start with minimum 5K £, preferably more
    4) practice, practice, practice until you can meet the criteria mentioned in the books.
