    SOTSOG: Two Book Reviews

I ordered two books from RGE on a Saturday afternoon. The books arrived in my mailbox first thing Thursday. This surprised me because Monday was MLK holiday, and mail wasn't moving. The person who took my order was knowledgable about the product, and helpful. This is refreshing from the usual over the phone ordering. You can't beat quick quality service.

I got "How to Win at Low Limit Holdem" by Lee Jones. It is a good book. I can summarize the whole book in about three sentences. Don't play junk, wait and only play good cards. If you have a real good hand after the flop, Bet. If you don't have a good hand, don't give it another thought, Fold. Of course, it would be worth your time to read the 100+ pages to really understand why the above three sentences are true for that type of game.

I also got "Killer Poker Online" by John Vorhaus. Another excellent book. It contains absolutely no poker strategy, strictly speaking, from a technical strategy point of view. Instead it gives interesting concepts about being in a poker "frame of mind", your subconsious feelings of your on-line bankroll, and other aspects of gambling on-line.

The book will remain useful and topical, no matter how the on-line gambling scene changes. With a lot of the concepts, you could find things that apply to B&M poker, and even solid gambling concepts that are good with other games.

    Parker: Thanks

Both for the book reviews, and for the kind words regarding RGE service.

interested in Poker because of the demise of playable BJ games or just a curiosity spawned by the TV shows?

I think this is may be an interesting development in the gambling world, especially when a famous player such as SOTSOG takes an interest in Poker.

I have no interset in trying to pry some EV out of poor BJ games, but I am lucky to still have some good games to play.

    Good cards,
    Ouchez.

I think the trend is towards more and more bad games in BJ. I believe this will turn around eventually, and there are always profitable situations that can be found.

I have some severe time constraits which has cut down on my ability to travel for good games. So instead of grinding down poor games (life is too short to play 8 decks), I am using my "down time" to play some local poker games.

You know the idiots who split 4s against a dealer's 10 and stand on A,5 vs 8? Well, a lot of those same ploppies are at the poker tables.

The recent TV exposure of Hold Em is very helpful also. They see the Pros with K3o, raising the big blind in some tournament situation, and they think they should do it too in a limit game.

I don't know which is more numerous, people who believe in the "flow of the cards" in BJ, or people who think "any two will do" in Hold Em.

Soft games abound in the world of Holdem but just try to find the equivalent in Blackjack. HA!

That is also happening in the online world, sign up bonuses are getting worse and worse, some you can only play slots on with ridiculous wagering requirements.Basically the only way to make money from these are to play with 7 or 8 different cards or netteller accounts.
still a few good sign up if you look but are dying out.
New poker sites are springing up all over the place, not as great sign ups as the casinos, but variance is small and there is no bull with getting paid.
also you can play poker anytime of the day and if you are good 3 tables at a time.
check out www.twoplustwo.com a really good site for discussing poker.
no possibility of being cheated unless the is a team colluding.
although some people have claimed to make a "HUGE" profit from using optimised game theory strategy against the colluders:-)
Maybe they can who knows ;-)
