    Uses computer to evaluate skill

    Hey everyone,
I'm new to this website, so I apologize if this is a dumb question.

I was reading the CBJN the other day while planning a trip to Vegas, and saw that a lot of casinos have a note under their name "uses computer to evaluate skill." I just wondered what that means and if its really a big deal.

Do they do that for comps? For identifying counters real time? Does the pit still have to call to have your skill evaluated by the computer, or is it automatic?

    Thanks.

It’s very time-intensive. The pit calls for an analysis. Last I heard, BJ Survey requires at least 150 hands including a positive and negative shoe. The MGM has reportedly only used the software about five times a month with only a 10% positive result.

Software may have improved. But, I’ve spent a fair amount of time thinking about this, as I wanted to build a skills evaluator into my software to tell players their own actual expectation. In my opinion, this cannot be done in shoe games without forcing specific hands and situations and a much larger set of data. The problem is that the count really doesn’t vary that much in shoes, and unusual hands are, well, unusual. The software sounds like a rip-off. Let the casinos think it works.

Which isn’t to say that you won’t get hit. Another reason to avoid making the pit suspicious, and keeping sessions short.

Smart casinos (I won't mention which) require multiple failures of a skills check to be considered a real threat. Still, any casino that is willing to make a huge financial decision about whether a player has a 1% edge on them with a sample of only 100-150 hands is moronic and some casinos will do just that. Fear is the Mind Killer.

How are you privy to such sensitive insiders information?
I’ve always wanted to be “in the know” for such gossip.
10% of 5 is 0.5. Is that like 2.5 children per household? LOL!
