Viktor Nacht: The Blackjack Library is slowly returning

It's back! Slowly but surely, the Blackjack Library is returning to AdvantagePlayer.com. We?ve started things off with some entirely new material that everyone should find fascinating. And with additional articles and features, new and old, being added over the coming months, this just a small step towards returning the library to its former glory.

To start with, we've posted the errata to BJA2 (better late then never?), and 3 of Robert V. Lux's interviews, with Don, Wong and Tamburin.

Click on the "Table of Contents" to enter the library.

In the mean time, if you have an original article or resource you?d like to contribute to the library, contact us using the information from the RGE contact page. Full credit and ownership rights will be honored.

And we have to get crackin' on the FAQ.

    Enjoy!

    Buick Riviera: A Suggestion

Any chance of making the font a tad bigger? It seems a bit small for my old eyes and unaffected by the View>Text Size>Largest function of my browser.

Just a suggestion from a guy that's over a half century old. The interviews are great and I'm looking forward to the growing library.

Viktor gave me this idea. Maybe it will help you.

Hold the SHIFT button down while left clicking the forum page. If you are fortunate, the screen shot will fill your monitor. When through with that page, X-out top right and you are still at AP.COM.

    Good luck.

Buick Riviera: Thanks, but. . .

. . .all that does is open up the page in its own window. The font is still small and difficult to read. Of course I could get my eye prescription updated and also buy a decent sized monitor. :-)

    Buick,

Maybe I am missing something, but if you use IE as your web browser it is quite simple to increase the font size. In your preferences there is a feature to change fonts and sizes. There is also a button available to instantly make larger or smaller all writing on the web pages that I have installed on the menu bar at the top along with favorites, history and such. The top bar is customizable up to about ten functions. So when the menus on the left is requiring more scutiny to decipher than is comfortable for our old eyes, you can just hit the "larger" button and voila, everything is bigger. Kinda like viagra for the eyes...

Unfortunately, I can relate. Couple of suggestions:

As someone pointed out, you can change the base font size in MSIE, and make it as large as you like. However, this will affect all pages views.

Another idea is to use a different browser entirely to view these pages. Why? Because both Opera and Mozilla have a zoom feature, that allows you to blow up a page to the point where a few words fill the entire screen, if you're really blind. :-)

Better yet, both browsers are free.

You can download Opera at: www.opera.com

    Mozilla homepage: www.mozilla.org

And who knows? You many discover that you like the browser so much that it becomes your primary browser.

    Norm Wattenberger: Other browsers

I hate Microsoft (they just littered the streets of Manhattan this week with decals pasted all over the streets, signs and public buildings and were forced to remove them.) And that ignores the fact that all Windows versions crash constantly. But, IE6 is vastly superior to any other browser. If you use any other browser than IE4 and up, numerous web sites just plain won?t work. Including all of mine. Every developer I know wants to see Netscape go up in smoke. Once you get things to work in IE (96% of the market,) then you must go through enormous effort to work through the Netscape bugs and holes. Opera doesn?t even count. No developers care about Opera.

Funny thing; I?m typing this in MS Word. And for the thousandth time, it turned off the spell check option when I didn?t want it to. I think MS is one of the worst major software companies to ever exist. Problem is, they really do own the market and using Opera or Netscape just hurts yourself.

    Viktor Nacht: Re: A Suggestion

Most of the site uses standards-compliant CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) to control font sizes. The only downside to CSS is that some older browsers (2+ years old) won't let you zoom in on the text, while most newer ones will.

Navgiation is one point size bigger than the old site, and body copy (anything in the right frame) is 12 point. Sorry about that 10pt font, everyone.

I intentionally did not use CSS on the forums, so you should be able to zoom on them, regardless of what browser you use.

One thing I did notice, when I was testing things out, was that I sometimes had to hit the zoom button 4 or 5 times to get the main copy of the messages to increase. Something about the encoding of the pages was making it so the first couple of zoom-clicks had little or no effect.

So I would try either a new browser (ala Parker's suggestion). The site will look best in IE. Not my preference, but for some bizarre-ass reason, IE is the most standards-compliant browser.

Or, be patient and smack that zoom text button a few more times.

Also, some browsers give you the power to ignore the pages encoded CSS. Check your preferences area.

    Hope that helps a little.

    Good Cards,

    V

I categorically refuse to use an inferior product simply because they "own the market" and everybody else is using it. I don't run Windows, I don't use Internet Explorer, and I don't use anything in the MS office suite.
