    Red face single deck inquiry

Will be heading to the greater Lake Tahoe region in the future. Apparently there are plentiful single deck opportunities (true?).

The only problem is: I have no idea how to play single deck!

Can someone tell me how it differs from a 6d shoe game? I am an experienced ap with 6d shoe, but have never (believe it or not) played a single deck.

If someone could quickly sum up the subtle differences, would be much appreciated.

A link to some useful info would be nice as well.

    yours,

    I love pit

Not that many single deck games anymore. Typically there is one game open at each casino. Regardless, if you should find one, they only allow you to double on 10 or 11 and there is no double after splits. The big difference between single deck and shoes is that the count is very volatile so you don't need as big a spread to win and you can play through negative counts. These games require at least a 1-4 (1-5 is better) spread to have a legitimate shot to win and you need to be able to get at least the final betting round of each shuffle begin after the first half of the cards have been dealt.

I'd suggest one of three approaches to betting

    a. Spread like 1-8 but come off the top with some medium size random bets (like 2 to 4 units). Look very unpredictable.

    b. Spread 1-4 like a computer.

    c. Spread like 1-20 and hit the door after a max bet.

You should keep your bets within a maximum range of two colors and your off the top bets should always be the highest color chip.

Some of the indices are different, basic strategy is different. I was there maybe six months ago and there's maybe one or two 3:2 SD's open and they are all $25 min. Like bigplayer said it's pretty terrible rules. Also the shuffle is discretionary (no cut card) and they WILL shuffle up on you (the worst was the older white males), but if you get someone who deals six rounds consistently headsup you got a nice game 1-4.

I ask because I will be playing at quite a few private parties where heat will be a non-issue, so I am looking for the optimal strategy with no cover plays or spread restrictions whatsoever. In comparing to a shoe game, it looks like basic strategy calls for you to double (soft 19 v 6) and split (4,4 v 4 (das)) more aggressively, as well as some strange stand moves (7,7 v 10). I was also surprised to know that insurance is taken at a pretty low tc of 1.4.

    Also hit on a 10,6 v 10 until a true of 4, but hit a 9,6 v 10 until true of 0.

    I must say, strange!

One question: Is there an ideal number of players for a single deck game?
    Should I play two spots?

    Pony Princess,

Would you say that in general, the 6d games are much more favorable (and plentiful) in the tahoe/reno areas? Maybe I should not even bother studying the single deck game.

There are playable games there, correct? Maybe I should change plans for vegas instead....

No the 6D games are terrible, they are like mostly 6:5. Montbleu has some ****ty H17 8deck game. I wouldn't bother learning composition based strategy. You never split 4's in nDAS.

Six deck games in Reno are horrible. (imagine h17 with no double after split allowed). You are gonna fry very fast in Reno...so fast you're head is gonna spin. But it might be worth it if you're not ever going back. Play unrated.

Harrah's tahoe may still have a high limit six deck game h17 ds rsa with decent cuts. Silver Legacy still allows double down on 2 or more cards on shoes I think. I think Grand Sierra may have a decent low limit shoe game, but you're probably better off just bopping around playing single deck and frying the entire town playing unrated and just leave and come back in 18 months.

I wouldn't bother with that game since that room's always empty and there's at least 3 suits who'd have nothing to do but watch and it's only one table most of the time. You can only "go to the bathroom" so many times, and if you don't a lot it's not worth it.
