Joe Miner: Double deck heat question
I play a lot of double deck games at the bigger casinos in LV. I have good success spreading 1:8 while playing quarters, and I have had very little heat. My "act" is not that good so I suspect that the lack of apparent attention is because no one is paying attention, the game I play is under their "radar," and/or because I keep my sessions short.
I do (for the most part) parlay my bets while ramping up. Occassionally I do jump my bet (more then parlay) as the count increases and I do pull back when the count decreases (even after a win).
Now how does the attention change if I were to play $100 minimum spreading 1:8? Or for the same apparent lack of attention that I currently get playing green, would I have to spread less, say 1:6?
Or perhapse it doesn't matter because I have been lucky in this regard?

It gets more than four times worse!! Not even in the same league. You spread 1-8 in black, at DD, your act better be top notch -- and then some.

Once you are at the black chip level and above, act is everything and even a phenomenal act will not always save you from being picked off.

You are right about this and I have certain LV casinos where I know this to be relatively consistent. Three things I'll share, however:
1. In hour 3 at one such venue, a dealer rotated
in and promptly called color on the 4 greens
I had stacked in a single hole (no other
dealer had done this). It created prompt
attention from the pit. After another
similar occurance down the road, I think it's
safe to say that counters at these spread
levels are not worth smoking out but they
will respond if it sticks them in the eye.
2. When I've snuck an extra quarter into a hole
($125 in green in 1 hole), I've drawn
attention in these venues that I hadn't
gotten at $100 (All my 8x1 is across 2 holes).
At $125, you become officially "black" at
most casinos and become subject to the
increased scrutiny that Don speaks of above.
3. You are wise to limit your sessions in spite
of minimal heat. In the venue that I descibe
in point #1 above, I had played there heat
free for some time prior to that incident.
When I returned to that venue some 4 weeks
later, I quickly drew attention because I
believe their overall familiarity with my
face enhanced their ability to associate it
with the incident.
