Cashier takes ID into back room?!

A buddy of mine just told me about how last night he cashed a little over $1k at one of the nicer MGM properties on the strip (a place I've cashed 2-3k a bunch of times with no problems) and the cashier asked to see his ID. He thought it was just to see the age, but she grabbed it and before he could say anything she ran it in something under the desk and walked into the backroom with it. She came out and he said something along the lines of, "what the ****?!"

She said, "oh it's gambling law. have to put you in the system." Which is of course bull ****. Keep in mind he was there for less than an hour playing green chips.

What the **** is going on? I don't know what to tell him. I've never seen that before ever. Is that even LEGAL?!

Use a wallet with an ID window. Protect your privacy and never let a casino employee handle your ID if it's not legally required for a transaction.

That's what he was thinking but how did the cashier know to take his ID? Did the pit call them and say HEY IF THERE'S THIS GUY JACK HIS ID. He said it was his second time there, weeks apart, and he was there for less than an hour with no visible heat.

The pits away from the cashier too. I mean it was obviously a busy night, he just went up to whoever was open at the cashier. Do they have computer screens where they just show people of interest? This has never happened to me, so I'm perplexed how they would know to take the ID or if there is ANY legitimate reason they take it.

You guys and gals gotta learn that when you are out in Predator mode to not carry ID!! It is too easy for many of you to be scared into showing it for any reason, damn!

In your phone have ICE loaded in case you have an health emergency or the like, everyone else can go to hell about the ID stuff.

I was cashing out $3500 a couple weeks ago and the cashier asked for ID, I said " I don't show ID" in a serious tone of voice and he-she, let it go.

WE have a real problem today with police and casinos and big bizzness thinking they can trample our rights and privacy, and they will continue till all of us get a set and stand up and say, "no way"!

I had a situation with managment the other day when I was approached and they just said the wrong thing and I went off in a most solid way, not even aware now that I was even in control of what I was doing, sorta went on automatic and I could see they were scared and not ready for what they were facing, and they backed off,,,, but I did hear more about it later from an insider. Some people just think they have this power over you to abuse, and I am not playing that game anymore. I am too old, to Independent, to loaded, and still value my freedoom to cow-tow, kiss up, grovel, aplologize, or do as I am told by any casino etc.

Unfortunately our freedoms and rights are slowly being eroded as every year passes under the false guise of protection.

I will, if I have no choice, hold up my

I.D. to read but I do not hand it over.

I will mumble something re: identity theft.

I guess what still has me baffled is why a regular cage person would take an ID in the backroom under any circumstances. The only thing I can think of is facial recognition is so advanced as soon as you walk to the cage it shows on their screen (do they even have computers there?) TAKE ID INTO BACK. What do they do with it, scan it? How is that legal? IS that legal?

Gambling is restricted by age (like buying alcohol or cigarettes), so yes they can ask/scan for your ID, just like the liquor store can, regardless of how old you "look". Scanning is it legal, as for taking it into the backroom, no idea.

This, but no need to even offer an excuse. A cage employee is not a law enforcement officer; they have no need or right to physically handle your ID. Why this particular clerk took your friends ID is a moot point — in the future he should not allow a casino employee to do this.

Edit: If your friend is young-looking, some places (mostly in the Midwest) will need to handle ID to scan it when entering the casino floor. This is a different issue entirely, and not one that I generally object to.

My guess is that this happened at Monte Carlo, which is an absolute joke. They scan everyone's ID if you let them. One of my friends cashed out 45 dollars (he was playing roulette) and they took his ID into the back and scanned it, he could see his ID on the computer screen after.

MAYBE, if you think monte carlo is one of the nicer properties LOL. That's reassuring though, if they just do it indiscriminately.
