You need to find the rule set you will most likely encounter in your local games. Basic strategy changes with the number of decks, and if the dealer hits an A-6 (H17 or S17). Also surrender is another critial thing to know if it's offered.

Then use the strategy engine on the link below to get the proper chart

Most likely for low limit games you will have at best a 6 Deck,H17 (dealer hits on A-6), DAS (double after split allowed), LS (with late surrender)

If you're in an area that offers S17 (dealer stand on A-6) then learn both

Leatherface, for your purposes, learning a generic basic strategy chart that is a compromise covering any number of decks and both S17 and H17 rules will do just fine. The shift in edge from learning the fine points for individual games is VERY small. I believe the Wizard of Odds has such a generic chart on his site. It's also published in many books.

Don't play on online BJ games -- you can't win. If you're playing at a real casino, get the rules and plug them into the generate on blackjackinfo.com. Learn the strategy, it's really not that difficult, considering it's all in chunks (you do the same thing with 12v5, 13v5, 14v5, 15v5, etc.)....except for splitting, that can get a little hairy. If you play at more than one casino and they have different rules, learn the differences in the rules (ie: One offers LS, the other one doesn't, then you would memorize the LS chart, and then you think "surrender else hit" or "surrender else stay").
