Questions for Bryce Carlson on Card Clumping Research

    Hello everyone,

Several years ago, Bryce Carlson published an insightful article on this Forum detailing his computer simulation research on card clumping. I find this topic fascinating and have 1-2 questions for him about his simulations.

Could someone kindly assist me in getting these questions to Bryce? For instance, I could email my questions to you, and you could forward them to him.

    Thanks so much, Don.

My initial post for Bryce to see (containing my reaction to his 2012 "Card Clumping Myth" blog on this Forum) can be found about 32 posts below this post. Here (hopefully!) is the link: https://www.blackjacktheforum.com/showthread.php?46280-Revisiting-Bryce-Carlson-s-2012-quot-The-Card-Clumping-Myth-quot-Blog

It contains a lot of detail, but Bryce may be intrigued by what I wrote in it.

For the sake of brevity, however, here are my 2 primary questions of Bryce.

    1) Regarding his computer sims designed to investigate card clumping, I understand the software performed random cuts. But in the blog I can find no mention of whether the software inserted (plugged) slugs of each shoe's unused cards into the pile of each shoe's discarded cards prior to the shuffle. Did his sims do this, or was there no plugging of the cards after each shoe?

    2) A) If the sims incorporated plugging, how many plugs? B) And were they randomly inserted into the discard pile, or was there an order to it (e.g., perhaps the top-most plug from the unused pile of cards was inserted into the top?, middle?, bottom ? of the pile of the discarded cards? C) What about the remaining 1-2 plugs, if there were any?

Bryce, I welcome any comments at [email protected]. Thank you!

    Thanks, Don!

    Don,

Wondering if you were able to forward my above questions on to Bryce?

Yes I did. And he answered me that he got it and would look for all of his notes on the subject.

    Hello Don,

I wanted to wait a bit before asking - Any word from Bryce?

The entire point of Bryce's blog post here is that clumping is complete nonsense. Not a high priority for him.

You'll be the first to know. I don't sit on emails. If he writes to me, you'll have the comments the same day.

Norm, Bryce was a bit surprised at some of the findings. They did not surprise me, and I think those unexpected (to Bryce and most) initial, preliminary findings warrant further illumination/investigation.

Thanks, Don. It's only been a week and a half or so. Perhaps he is more busy, as are most of us, at this time of year due to the Holidays. I will be patient.

I discussed this with Bryce last month. Not the impression I got at all.
