Some will disagree in various ways as to player's cards. But one thing that everybody agrees on is that you should spread your action around. Card or not, you will be shown the door at some point if you play too much. Of course, the concept of "too much" varies at each casino. You don't know what your retirement day will be and you can't plan on it. So you want to extend it as much as possible by playing (ideally) all over the country. If that's not practical, then maybe multi state. If that's not possible, then maybe you just don't play as often as you would like locally.
My opinion is that you shouldn't play with a card. If they ask you to get one, just say that you don't want your wife knowing how much you are gambling and/or don't want mailers to come to the house. It's much harder to trespass you if they don't know your name and address.
