    Greg Special

Went to the casino today, had a good feeling going in…

game conditions: H17, RSA, DOA, 6deck, hand shuffle, 5/6 penetration, 3:2, $25 min. 1-2 other players at table. Took $2500 with me to play with.

I played for ~4 hours using KO with the color of blackjack adjustments. Used a 1:20 spread. Was up and down thru the time I alotted myself to play.

my last shoe: 3 decks played with a running count of +13. I caught some negative variance and was down to $1000.

seeing the positive count mid way thru the shoe, I told myself to push the max bet out and hope for the best.

i was dealt a 8,8 vs 3. Of course I split and catch a 9 on the first hand and wave it off. I caught another 8 for my second hand. I tell myself to stay with the 16 and hope for a bust…but I couldn’t go out like that, so i ran to the ATM and pulled another $500 to do the split. I know 10’s have to be on the way out, but I get a 7 for a 15 on the second hand and a 4 on the third hand to make 12.

at this point I’m telling myself the dealer has to have a 10 in the hole and will pull a 10 to bust and I’ll be on my way to the best shoe of my life

    she flipped an A, then drew a A (s15), A (s16), 6 (12), 4 (16)………..

I’m standing up gripping the padding around the table while the Asian guy next to me is screaming MONKEY! The pit personnel are next to the dealer staring the table down……

and she caught a 5 for a seven card 21!

I could have sh!t a brick at that moment. I thought that guy on YouTube DegenDalt was making these situations up to be funny

Next round starts and of course the next card out of the shoe was the Jack I needed. so, i thanked the dealer and walked to my car in disbelief. The -$3000 was my worst session so far.

Oh no, I’m not in Kenya. I stole the name from my favorite character in the book Dealt by Eric Sherwoo. This is in the States

Did your bet spread says to place 500$ bet or you placed because you felt like you would win.
No matter how good you are at counting if you cannot manage your emotions and bet according your bankroll, you will never make it in long run.

yes, 1-20 spread; so $25 min to $500 when over +4 on running count. If anything, managing the emotions was being willing to put the money out instead of reducing it to cut immediate risk

    (my IRC is -20)

Hmmm, $2500 session roll spreading 1-20 on $25 min game. So wrong on so many levels.

I now realize my intent for the post was lost in the details. I’m not complaining or asking for advice on my bankroll or trip bankroll or why KO sucks compared to whatever other count a person may choose

i really just thought it was a ridiculously funny situation with every blackjack trope present from the pit to the count to Asian guy yelling monkey while I get smoked by a seven card 21 with a necessary run to the ATM to split my second pair of 8’s

cheers and I hope you enjoy laughing at this. It could have been great and I definitely felt like the grape stomping lady that fell while on the local news (do yourself a favor and look it up on YouTube if you be never seen it)

really just laughing at the situation at this point

    3 points
    1. Always have the necessary cash on you to complete a split or double.
    2. If I was at the table with you, I would complain to the critter that I didn’t want to wait (want to preserve that high count in case usurpers arrived at the table) - the critter would likely tell you tough luck and play.
    3. With a $2500 session roll and $500 max bet (1-20 spread), think about a max split all hands doubled requiring $4000 cash - you need to be prepared. I’ve been in those hands more than once.

yeah i got the joke, i always talk about greg special at the table.
but honesty, the thing is you have to run to the atm and not having enough money to complete a positive shoe took the fun out of the greg special joke u made about situation u were in.

Maybe you weren't seeking the advice. But you definitely need some of this advice. Additional advice: If the short session results or the results on a single hand are that emotional for you then you are possibly playing too high. Based on your trip bankroll issues that seems likely.

    Lol... Greg special.
I'm new AP. (6 months about 1k hours.) I made my first 'big trip' about 2 months ago.
My bank roll was 3k yes... I'm poor. 3k was a lot. $5 tables $500 max. 4 deck shoe. I was using hi-low.
Last day of trip, 4am in morning. Hell marry.
True Count is +24. 3 and 1/2 deck pen. Less then half a deck left.
I bet Maxx. $500. Dealer gets a 5 showing. I get 2 faces. I split. 10's. Get more tens until I'm 4 hands max split. 2k on table.
    I'm sitting on 4 hands ALL 20's vs a 15.
    Dealers shows a 10 face...15....pulls the six...21.
True count was +16 still. With like 18 cards left.
This was my only big trip so far. I was going back to my wife a hero or a zero.
I can't believe the luck. Yet it's just how it goes.

Yes it's way overbeting. Yet I mostly wanted to show my wife that it works etc. Lol. Who wouldn't make that bet?? I'd do it again too. Still... just wow. Greg special of my life! =(

Ps. I never split 20's now. Yes I know ypu should etc. Depending on T.C. yet, it brings heat.( I didn't care as I was leaving anyways) and now after doing the math I really don't think it's worth it .
unless the T.C. is super high like it was. You're basically betting 75% to win a extra 25%. I look at the 20 as a win. So it's my bet + winnings+ another bet to split. To win only 25% more.

Some years back with some outrageous TC - was playing 2x350 with 2 hard 20’s losing to a dealer multi card 21 and 2 hands later still at 2x350 again landing 2 hard 20’s again losing to a dealer multi card 21. Shit happens.
