How to come up with Playing deviations

    Hi there,

I am learning the playing deviations. Can someone show me an example how to create a playing deviation yourself? Do you look up some tables to make the decision where you start to deviate? Thanks for any input.

I know I can just memorize the illustrious 18 & fab 4, but what if I want to come up with more deviations myself, how do I do it?

    Thank you!

If you use HiLo, you don't need to create the playing deviations yourself as Don and Dave have published the complete guide to index play, which provides 50 deviations for different games. Now if you really want to create them yourself, a good place to start is KCs' BJ Strat homepage or you can use CV DATA. I you want examples of creating deviations trough combinatorial analysis, some people here are highly qualified to respond.

Also, hi lo or halves read Wong’s Prifessional Blackjack. Very good tables starting around page 250 and 275 for hi lo and halves respectively.

Note - negative indexes are truncated. Positive are floored (or truncated). Makes no difference in positive. Probably an easier 0lace to start - though Secretariat post gives far more info regard8ng rule sets etc.

If you can do a little programming, you can calculate the EV for each playing decision at each count. Then find the indices like this:

We actually provide ~150 for some games, but only rank the top 50 (Play-all) or 40 (Back-count) for each rule set we examined.

Thank you all! That book looks incredible. I was looking for some combinatorial/Probability-based way to calculate it, but I like memorizing tables too =)
