    Rookie to Pontoon

Hi I am brand new to pontoon can someone tell me why pontoon BS has D5 or D6 when you are supposed to be paid when you have five cards below 21, or that’s what I heard?

Secondly if you use total bj BS at pontoon what is the house edge?

Depends on the rules. Yes, Surrender 17 vs Ace when dealer stands on soft 17.

The 5 cards have to total 21. Doesn't count if you have 5 cards that don't total 21.

Why would there be D6?? I mean max D4 since the next fifth card is going to affect 5 cards on 21 payout? Unless you are telling me six cards or seven cards on 21 no direct payout?

Also I notice in pontoon why A2 to A6 vs dealer 3to6 you just hit when in black jack you double? You have the Extra option of hitting and doubling after the first double so all the more you should double instead of just hit. For instance if I had A2 vs 6 in black jack I get 3 it is the worst hand. In Pontoon after A23 I still can hit or double to better that hand

To the very knowledgeable Norm if you are able to answer

Also coming from a bj perspective, If EV for 10 or 11 vs 2to 6 is such that you do double on these, why is it when as the pontoon BS shows you have to hit if you have 5 or 4 cards instead? With. The 5 cards bonus shouldn’t all the more you should double when you have four or five cards?

I think you're missing that there are also 6 and 7 card bonuses at 2 to 1 and 3 to 1 respectively. So the more cards you have, the less likely you are to double.

This is also why you double soft hands less often. They have a decent chance of turning into bonus hands. More so than hard hands.

The more you explain the more I don’t get it. They have bonuses 2 to 1 or 3 to 1 ALL the more you should double no? Double means double bet so you are paid 2 X 1+ double?

No. The bonuses do not apply to doubled hands.

Also as I play it makes me wonder why there are boxes for doubling after the first double. It seems to me the cases for the second double will not even occur for 2to5 for player in Pontoon BS. For instance after a first double on player 9 vs dealer 6. If he gets an Ace or 2 to double again since player has 10 or 11, he then may double on this 11 but not 10 since he has 20. However this 9vs6 seems the only case I cannot think of another case where there’s second double and the third is even more unimaginable

    Then, let’s make one.

    6 v 6 - Double
get a 3 for total of 9 - Double Double
get a 2 for total of 11 - Double Double Double
