    Modern spread length

I'm trying to find out what people are spreading by these days. My understanding is that the meta has shifted, and it's better to go hard and fast than to look for longevity.
Is spreading by 20 absolutely absurd? I see posts from the early 2000's where people are saying a risky spread might be 1-8 or something.

When spreading 1 - 20, ideally you want to show up at 9:00 am sharp with a cup of coffee in hand as well.
A lot of casinos will let you bring in a small backpack, you can save a few bucks by bringing in some sandwiches for lunch time.

The games were better back then. Larger spreads are necessary now. That said

\It depends. If you are trying to preserve some local places, 1:20 will never work.
If you're at a casino where the next nearest casino is a 3 hour drive, do you really want to get tossed within 30 minutes?
OTOH, if you're in a city far from home with lots of casinos that you know don't talk to each other, let 'er rip. I've seen other APs spread table min to table max!

How could you ever confidently know this though? There seem to be 2 different worlds that collide on this forum. The seasoned pro with 200k+ BR and the serious hobbyist.
The worst thing that can happen to the serious hobbyist 20-30k BR is they go out and get barred at all local places and now to get action they have to travel.
Now travel costs destroy all the earned EV. I am not green, but I guess I have a lot to learn. The disheartening thing about this game as a serious hobbyist is that
you can't get volume in. It is like you're always stuck within the throws of variance because you can't sit down and grind out 8-hour sessions a day.
Maybe I am too cautious, but I have hundreds of hours of training time (cutting, depth perception, peeking, etc.) and don't want to get burned
unable to play without running from security guards every 30 mins place to place.

About 4 years ago when I joined this forum I realized how weak my game was and how much I had to learn. I took the advice to heart and got backed off at all local places.
Some of that was on me, weak camaflouge and playing to long. I stayed away for 2 years and just trained at home. New managemnet at a ccouple places and I am back in action,
but it comes with a bit of paranoia.

While maybe not 100%, networking with other players helps. For example, it's well known that the big chains in Vegas don't talk to each other, but they do disseminate info within their own chain of casinos.

Why do you want the morning session and the coffee though? For better camouflage?

Sorry, I was just joking comparing it to like you're punching in for work.

So are you implying that spreading by 20 is not nearly enough?

I wasn't implying that at all. I was just adding some light-hearted humor because it will be obvious you're there for business.

I think 21forme gave a great answer to this.

The proper answer could be different for each of us.
If you have a strong game and experience only you know the answer.

Weigh the pros and cons. For me, it is only feasible for me to play local and out of town maybe 4x a year. Spreading 1 -20 would be like pure gambling only because
it takes time and volume for the edge to deliver. In the best-case scenario, I would win a few hundred units and be hard-banned and out of action until I can travel.
Worst-case scenario I drop several hundred units and am banned out of action. Minds well take 400 hundred units and play a hand of war at least I would be welcomed back.

*A different person might be on the road constantly and have the proper bankroll for that and might feel it is a waste of time not spreading at least 1-20. Whatever you choose good luck.
