Am I part of the club now?

So...the craziness...I started counting cards in March of 2019.

I broke even (basically) in all (4) years that I played.

    2019 -$340 is 612 hours of play
    2020 +$170 in 99.5 hours of play
    2021 -$870 in 77 hours of play
    2022 -$100 in 136 hours of play

Crazy, I know! Yet, I still kept going back and going back. This is my year for 2023 so far:

+$3,745.00 in 52 hours of play.

When you are playing many hours just hoping to finally be in the black, it is a whole different feeling than going while up the amount I am up.

I realize it can go up or down tremendously in a fleeting moment. However, MAYBE I was more hesitant in my break even days to put that $100 bet out, not sure.

Now, it is easy...and even losing my first $100 bet in a session is not very painful.

Damn. 5th year. So crazy. I am still here. I am still standing. I'll update y'all in 3 months.

My casino also raised their $10 min tables to $15 min, so it forced me to go bigger in the high counts as well. That, I think, is another contributing factor. I simply was not betting big enough in the high counts the previous years. I also make much more money after switching careers, so one more factor that contributes to not hesitating when time to bet max, etc.

It is how much you bet that matters, not how much you win or lose.

Don't get too excited about being ahead by $3,745. This game can turn on a dime. I use to always say towards the end of the year, I'm now far enough ahead that I don't have to worry about having a losing year only to see how quick the game can change.

Right now I'm having a terrible year. It is starting off the same as last year, but I still hope it will turn around. As of the end of January, I was down around $8,000 after 50 play sessions. What really pisses me off is I had a great promotion which gave me a 1.5% advantage. It was a drip promotion where for every $100 played they gave you $2 in free credits. I had play of $400,000 and should have won $6,000 on it. Okay, wait for it! I actually lost $4,000 on the promotion. A swing of $10,000 from expected value. I wonder what the odds of this happening are? No bet was made larger than $100 and my standard bet was $50. Average bet was probably around $70. January would have been a winning month if I made expected value on this promotion.

Yeah, I hear ya. I am for sure Excited...but not TOO Excited.

The most I had ever been up over the course of (4) years was about $2,100. That actually happened immediately when I first started counting (even before I was playing any deviations) and, of course, at that time I thought I was on my path to becoming filthy rich!! HAAH!

Now, this year, I am again at an all time high, at $4,965.00 after tonight.

I realize there is plenty of times for my dreams to shatter, but I am now in uncharted territory!!!!! It feels great! Also, in January alone, I am already halfway to the next Players Card Level, which gives you (12) nights in vegas, Bahamas Trip, Caribbean Cruise and VIP Parking at Casino. I earned that in 2019 to use for 2020 (and then Covid kept me from using any of those trips). Never again did I get there...but, now, already halfway in beginning of February? Crazy!

@kcchiefsfan What is your spread? Do you use betting cover and/or cover plays?

    Very high risk.

I've played 4 years of break even. Not doing that again. If I tilt a $10,000 bankroll, so be it.

I've played (3) hands of $200 a couple times already (won them all)

    I played (1) hand of $1,000 (got a blackjack)

It is what it is. A lot of times my spread is $10 to $100....but sometimes it is...$600

It doesn't seem that you bet with the kind of discipline it takes to be a winner, which may explain your results. If you just take whimsical flyers, now and then, you're a gambler, not an AP. Also, if your top bet was too big with respect to your bankroll, that's yet another reason why you wouldn't win.

Yes…well…a step above traditional gambling…but gambling nonetheless. What I am doing would be acceptable…if I had a $30,000 bankroll.

I am now up to $6,250 profit, plus another $5,000 I am willing to lose…so a $11,000+ bank roll. Hopefully I will settle down and accept a losing session, should I have one. (I think I will. My more risky stuff was when I was only up about $2,500 and was ok with throwing in the towel. Now, I am too heavily invested)

Today, I got (2) blackjacks in a row on my ‘typical’ max bet of $100. I can only remember that happening to me once before…in all my (4) years of playing.

    ......)

The "Paul Harvey, rest of the story".....

....so you're up $3745 over 52 hours and won $2700 of it on 3 hands....hmmmm...something tells me the other 51 hours and 57 minutes weren't so successful

Haha, fair enough! Ok, so only one of those (3) hands of $200 was part of my $3,745 profit.

I am now at around $6,200. Yes, a decent chunk of that was from the $1,000 bet that hit blackjack for $1,500 win, and the other (3) hands of $200.

I have (4) years of experience of breaking even. I am good at doing that! HA! I refuse to do that. I am ok with doing one of (2) things:

    Going broke ($10,000)

    or

    Getting to the next level.

But, I will not do year (5) of breaking even. That is NOT an option. I am serious about option 1. It is ok if I go broke. I have to lose big and move on or win big.
