    No mid-shoe entry on 1D and 2D

A couple friends of mine were in Vegas recently and reported that they saw "No mid-shoe entry" signs on lots of single and DD tables, but rarely on shoe games. Isn't this exactly the opposite of what logic would dictate? Why would counters try to Wong SD and DD games with the count as unstable as it is? Is there another reason I'm missing to restrict mid-shoe entry on pitch games?

Many casino policies are the opposite of what logic dictates.

My guess is that they don't want people sitting out hands and jumping back in. Some casinos will also use this excuse to prevent players from spreading to multiple hands mid-game. Being able to avoid several negative hands per hour can make a big difference for a card counter playing pitch games.

The career of a card counter is usually a short one. To be old is an honor.

I heard there are two coming. One will be called something like "The Book," a parody of the expression about playing by the book. it will be a basic strategy guide to carny games. Second one will be CAA-like with limited availability and a higher price.

    vegaskid,

In addition to Sonny's "sitting out hands" reason is this old standby: approach the table as the dealer is dealing the first round, and then decide to play only if the count is favorable. At some casinos I used to move from DD table to DD table doing just this.

I hadn't really thought of that. True, after watching a single round you could already have a significant advantage in 1D or 2D. Though I would think they would catch on to this rather quickly.
