Thank the U.P. for the Nickel in Your Electric Car Battery

There is only one operating nickel mine in the United States — the Eagle Mine in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, which produces raw nickel concentrate.

And pretty soon there will be more nickel mining in the U.P.

Yep, I think I might buy myself a GM electric SUV. GM is going to have an electric Equinox in late 2023 or 2024 and also an electric Blazer in 2024. If I can hold out until then, it will probably be the last vehicle I will have to buy.

No problem. At the tally up of my assets at the end of last year I found out I joined the millionaire club. Remember this poll.

Anyway, it didn't last long. This year the stock market crashed, had to put a new roof on the house, bought a new frig (old one was 40 years old but still worked great), got new brakes for the car, and the record blackjack year of last year disappeared along with all of the great online promotions.

However, these ev tax credits in the Inflation Reduction Act are going to make these vehicles very price competitive with gas. Now we just need a few more charging stations across the U.P. Right now they are few and far between.

You probably remember this from when you were a kid, but I've read in the history books that in the early days of gasoline cars (early 1900s), people had to bring a container to the hardware store to buy gas. Gas stations on every corner didn't become a thing until years later.

There are quite a few charging stations in the U.P. already, but they are not the fast charge type. Most are level 2, but more ev stations will be coming since money for them is in the Inflation Reduction Act just passed by Congress. I will do my charging at home.

Here is map to ev charging stations.

Just looked out the window. There are two police boats and a Coast Guard cutter anchored in the river. There are hundreds of police around. They've blocked off most of the roads. OK, which of you guys turned me in?

Just looked outside again. Still in Manhattan. Almost no snow this year. Lantern flies everywhere though. Can't wait for the first frost that will kill them all.
