Question about the Maximum table bet

In a casino suppose the table has a high/Maximum allowed bet of $100. So I walk up to the Black Jack table and place a $100 chip on the betting circle. Now if I get dealt cards 5, and 6, as my first two cards, and the dealer is dealt an up facing card of 5, then I want to double down on my first bet. So I would add another $100 bet to the table.

So now I have a total of $200 on the table, when as I pointed out, the sign at the table said that the max bet was $100? So did I break the rules by betting a total of $200 at the max $100 table? Or does this rule of max $100 per bet not apply when the bettor doubles down?

It applies to what you put in the circle for your initial bet. You should be able to double, split, etc.

Of course, there may be a jurisdiction with crazy rules that prohibit this. For example, in Colorado, back in the $100 max bet days, it was OK on table games, however, if you were playing a BJ machine, you weren't permitted to exceed a total of $100. Also, this example wouldn't apply to BJ, but on some carny game tables, there may be a table maximum payout per hand, which is less than what's theoretically possible. For example at Mississippi, if you hit a Royal, the payment may be capped at something like $25K. This should be on a sign on the table.

Thanks, so in a matter of words if I bet $100 Max on my initial bet (The max bet) Then I should be able to double the initial bet no problem.
Well I have played the Black Jack machine in Central City CO at the central city casino. That was over 5 years ago, they probably have a different one by now. Super fun machine.
