To answer your question, I’ve done some calculation. Theoretically we can gain an edge from insurance by plat-betting and spreading to 8-hand when Hi-Lo TC>3. Realistically we may not because a blackjack table often has 6 spots.

For a card counter, we can also gain an edge from insurance by horizontally spreading into 2-hand and vertically spreading our bet into 4-unit each.
