    Surrender Question

I have been playing at A local shop and the game I have been playing includes surrender and in this case surrender is offered when splitting ace's or stand .
I have seen and been part of this play about 15 times and though I have not seen a strategy for this particular play I am not sure what is the correct play here .
The times I have played the card dealt after the split is let us say A 3 or 4 becoming A soft 14 or 15 against A higher card of say 8 or 9 which is safe to say A low value play .
What I have been doing is surrendering this low value play and it has been working at A very high percentage in my favor , my question is has anyone seen this play or ran any sims .
If there is A strategy for this play can someone reference it to me , Thanks

    calculatedhit,

With a little work you can devise your own basic strategy using the information at the link below:

    https://wizardofodds.com/games/black...pected-values/

Just select your game's house rules (# of decks, dealer action on soft 17, hole card or no hole card), then scan the list to find soft hands for the player. If the Stand EV is lower than -0.5, surrender is better than standing. Don't forget to work your way down to the Pairs table at the end to see how to play A,A.

At a cursory glance, any soft 16 or below should be surrendered against any 7 and above. The decision on soft 17 may depend on the house rules.

If you are card counting and so want to find index numbers for this odd surrender rule, then simulation will be needed.

    Hope this helps!

So, after you split Aces and receive one card, your only option is to surrender or stand, correct? You cannot double or hit, correct?

If so, based on my calculations, you have a hand under 17, it is better to surrender vs 8,9,10 and Ace, than to stand.

So, for dealer’s 7, it looks like the dealer busts 26.2% of the time, so you’ll win 26.2% and lose 73.8%, EV is about -0.476=0.262-0.738.

Better to stand and lose 47.6 cents than surrender and lose 50.0 cents.

Personally, I am shocked that a casino is offering a favorable option. They must have forgotten to do the math!!

All these answers are easily found by scanning down the Appendix A values in BJA3, as well.

This is the same situation as double down rescue. In addition to surrendering hands less than 17 vs 8, 9, T and A, you should surrender 17 vs A.

Not following. We're talking about split aces. What do you mean by 17? A,6? That isn't a surrender.

Should always double check before posting. When your only choices are surrender or stand you surrender A,6 vs A for H17 games and for Spanish 21. Sorry for any confusion.

Do we surrender A,6 vs A for Stand-17 games? You didn’t say this, so I guess no.
