New CVBJ user - a couple basic questions about the software

    Hey folks,

I just bought CVBJ to practice basic strategy and maybe counting down the line.

As background, I used to bonus hunt in the early days of online casinos and played thousands of hands back then (+Jacks or Better VP). Haven't played much BJ since then and my basic strategy is definitely very rusty.

From my initial session with the software, I have some very basic questions:

    1. Is it not possible to do flash card drills with RANDOM cards? The "flashcard" drill has a "Default hands" which seem to always be the same hands.. Is there really no "random hands"? Is it "Hands with indexes"? I guess I don't really understand what that means.

    2. In my error log, almost all the hands show a "$0" cost. Examples including doubling A5 vs 3, doubling A6 vs 2 where I should have hit and hitting hard 10 vs 6 when I should have doubled. There are a couple of entries that actually show a cost, but at this point that is only 2/12 using the "Complete Basic Strategy".

    3. Since eventually I will want to do drills focused on my errors rather than completely random play, is there a way to "remove" errors from the error log? Not trying to cheat here, but I see no reason to drill mistakes due to hitting the wrong button.

Please don't scold me for my disastrous basic strategy errors :)

    1. The game uses random cards, unless you select some biases. Problem with using totally random cards is that you end up playing the same obvious hands over and over which are trivial instead of the hands that matter. Do you want to be tested on five vs. ten? That's one of the many reasons that playing on your kitchen table is not effective. Using the mask function, you can select any number of hands, including the obvious ones.

    2. The cost function is generally used for counting.

    3. There are Reset buttons. In the menu History-Error Tables, you can also set it to automatically reset at each CV startup, each new session, or only manually.

We all make errors at first -- and sometimes not at first.
