    Two Hands or One?

At first, I think 2 hands at $70 will give me the same standard deviation (sd) as 1 hand at $100, since (2*70)/2^.5= 100, but upon further thought, this is not right because these two hands are not independent, since we both face the same dealer hand.

So what value of each of my 2 hands will give me the same sd?

Also, if I am playing heads up, I will bet more money at 1 hand of $100 than 2 hands of $70. (For example, if there are 6 hands left in the shoe, I bet 3 hands at $100 ($300) or 4 hands at $70 ($280)) So the goal of getting more EV is negated.

What is this? It doesn’t look correct.
The goal is to make EV/SD greater every hand. Right?

Hehehe. I just read BJA3 pp. 25-26…..heads up - play 1 hand; 1+ players at the table, play 2 hands at 73%.

    Sorry for another moronic question!

No book is correct on this matter. If the dealer is going to bust, you play two hands, otherwise, you play one or two hands depending on the counts.

There is an old archived forum at the very bottom of the threads home page called Don's Domain Archive. You will find lots of great stuff in there where people ask questions similar to your OP and Don answers them. I'm only calling it out because I never noticed it until months after joining this forum. Definitely check it out if you haven't yet. It is a Gold mine of informative discussions archived away.

I know a few dealers that often joke when a player gets a blackjack, "Next time you get one of these, make sure you bet more money!"
