Seond, the OP Megalon just said I was helpful, but you were saying the opposite.
Third, I will buy a Katarina book to find out what is in table 3.8 on page 17. I haven’t got what I ask for.
Hopeless. Also wrong on geography. We are the Northern Hemisphere. Also Megalon has strongly implied that he’s a newbie - an excellent example of aceside handing out erroneous information that newer players take as gospel.

He was referring to davethebuilder (Australia).

How's this for a northern hemisphere directness:

You're a moron, an asshole and a troll. Just stop posting your always incorrect drivel and go the fuck away.

I think 21forme should learn to more clearly articulate his thoughts. It’s possible that aceside didn’t get the message.

My apologies to all of you! I noticed more "unhelpful" comments on my posts and thus realized my math was wrong. Let me make a second correction here. If the dealer shows a 7 of spades, the threshold for the player hit/split decision is $354, and if the dealer shows a 7 of non spades, the threshold for the player hit/split decision is $428. Please check into these numbers.

Also, I meant to reply to the uppermost post from davethebuilder (Australia) but accidentally responded to Freightman. I meant Australia is in the down south. I hope this can help calm down
    21forme .

“That trunk of humours, that bolting-hutch of beastliness, that swollen parcel of dropsies, that huge bombard of sack, that stuffed cloak-bag of guts, that roasted Manningtree ox with pudding in his belly, that reverend vice, that grey Iniquity, that father ruffian, that vanity in years?”
    - Henry IV Part 1 (Act 2, Scene 4)

Shakespeare can out-insult anyone. I've been called so many names and continue to be called such on other forums by those kicked out here for abusive behavior. Abusive argumentum ad hominem can be the province of small minded folk with discomfort in their own self. Leave it for the insult forums.

The art of converse is to find a method of communication useful to all sides.

I prefer Two Gentlemen of the Lebowski
Behold thy car, the Corvette, crimson-stain’d, And see what befalls sinners evermore.
[He raises his sword, and smites the car]
This befalleth when thou firk’st a stranger ‘twixt the buttocks, Laurence! Understand’st thou? Dost thou attend me? Seest thou what happens, Laurence? Seest thou what happens, Laurence? Seest thou what happens, Laurence, when thou firk’st a stranger ‘twixt the buttocks?!

have to agree, Shakespeare was the best

You didn't specify the suit of the player's pair or the exact rules, but you're in the ball park.

    Let me specify the conditions.

For an 8-deck game: If the dealer shows a 7 of spades, the threshold for hitting/splitting a player pair of suited spades is $354. If the dealer shows a 7 of non-spades, the threshold for hitting/splitting a player pair of suited spades is $428. All other player suited pairs have the same numbers.

For a 6-deck game, these numbers become $279 and $372. Other rules do not matter very much.

Please help verify these. Thank you in advance.

    Aceside,

At a minimum you need to specify the number of decks, H17 or S17, redouble rules, the true count, the dealers upcard and the player’s exact two card composition to get an answer to your question.

In practice, most flat betting basic strategy players will not play with a bet size anywhere near the threshold amount so this is all rather academic. If, however, you are counting with a decent spread and your large bet approaches the threshold then you should know what to do. Even if the odds favour hitting you are still going to bust more than 50% of the time. The higher your true count the lower the threshold amount will be so if you are able to memorise those numbers for your local game and apply them correctly then so much the better but it won’t do much for your win rate.
