    8,8 vs. 9 Basic Strategy (Don't Split?)

I was generating deviations with CV Index for a 52 card pen DD game, and it says basic strategy for a pair of 8s (8,8) is to not split against a 9. At this point I assume I treat it like a hard 16?

Can anyone comment on this? I've never really seen this before. Always split 8's is what is commonly said.

Can this be because of the poor deck penetration?

    blondechimp,

    That looks like a mistake.

Off the top, hitting 88 vs. 9 is about -49.8%, while splitting is -41.6% for No DAS and -39.5% for DAS. Thus, getting a result of "never split" cannot be correct.

The poor penetration has no effect.

Perhaps our peerless leader Norm can shed additional light on this discrepancy.

    Hope this helps!

Thank you for the mathematical breakdown.

Yeah, I just used CVIndex twice again and it's still saying don't split 8,8 vs. 9.

Maybe it is a bug and perhaps Norm can comment.

    And no haha it's unrelated.
