Thanks for all the advice. I have the blackjack bluebook II ordered. Sounds like what I’m looking for. The MGP's Combinatorial Analyser will not download on my PC. It seems like an older program because I need to download another program to make that work on my PC. I looked at the screen shots and it does seem outdated. Not that the analyzer isn’t good, the program itself I think is outdated.
I’ll dig out the old Window 98 from the attack this weekend and see if I can the program going. Might as well play some EA Tiger Woods 2000 while I’ve got it booted up.
Personally, in my case, no books helped me learn blackjack strategy. The practice with my friends helped me the most. I've read quite a lot of books, so if you have any questions about a particular book, you can write to me in private messages. By the way, if you want to improve your skills, you can try playing Brazino777. I've been playing this online casino for a couple of months now. There you will definitely find something suitable because the collection of games in this online casino is really pleasantly surprising.

Tony, besides Don's "Bible", which still might be more advanced than you want at this point..............and besides DogHand's reference (he always gives good and well intention-ed advice), if you are really looking for something that explains basic strategy in detail, I would go for the older books that were written. Don is right............you mentioned mostly pretty useless books except Griffin's, and his is very advanced for what you mentioned. I would try to find "How to Play Winning Blackjack" by Julian Braun.....think last edition in the 80's, one of the first computer guru's to actually program for basic strategy. Great book for why you play certain hands. And it's not always about which hand or play WINS more but many times it's also which hand or play LOSES less. Also check out Laurence Revere's "Playing Blackjack as a Business". He was one of the first to use color charts with explanations for play.
These are both classics and while most here are way beyond Basic Strategy and will rely on charts to refresh their memory as to how to play under different conditions, without concerning themselves with the reasons why, if you really want to know what's BEHIND basic strategy (without using an excel program), these older books will prove very illuminating.
"Women and cats will do as they please, and Men and dogs should just relax and get used to the idea" --- Robert A. Heinlein
Braun's book has been out of print for decades. It was quite wonderful. But I believe Revere's can still be found, and his color charts are equally wonderful. But they're all for single-deck, so you would still have to go elsewhere for the multi-deck charts. The Blackjack Engine at blackjackinfo.com is surely the most reliable source, along with the Wizard of Odds, of course.

Yes, it is. I just meant it qualitatively, not quantitatively, because I remembered this funny paragraph in the book stating
"Many people think that insuring a 20 is smart and insuring a 13 is stupid, when in fact _both_ plays are stupid.
...
So the next time you see some goofball insure his 13, he is no dumber than you insuring your 20" (or some similar wording)
:-)
