Question Is the Coronavirus the fork in Las Vegas? :/

There have been reports for YEARS that Las Vegas has been declining in Popularity due to the HEART of it, Casino Gambling, is no longer confined to it or Atlantic City. Now MOST States have Casinos and you no longer have to travel to just TWO states to Gamble in a Casino. The Unexpected Coronavirus caused ALL Casinos in The U.S to shut down for about three months. Vegas was already wobbling on its last legs even BEFORE the Coronavirus even existed. It seems that the Coronavirus Pandemic just may be the death kneel of Las Vegas.... There have also been reports that Las Vegas is now a low down, trashy dirty Ghetto and no longer the Glitz and Glamour it used to be. So that doesn't help either.

The problem now is dining, shows, clubs, and conferences, as well as fear of air travel. When these problems go away, LV should return.

I agree it will come back, but how long it will take is another question. In-person convention business may suffer long after other things and that has been one of the driving forces of Vegas traffic. As for availability of gaming in other states, there's been a lot of consolidation in the industry so many of the outposts are owned by the same corporate owners as Vegas properties. I expect them to try to make Vegas appear as 'the big leagues' so as to make it an aspirational destination with the outer casinos serving as feeder systems.

That makes a lot of sense.

It also depends upon what you mean by Vegas "coming back". What really irked me past trip(s) was though they lowered (for me comped) hotel room prices BUT they have raised the cost of everything else, as in food and drink. Parking was free for awhile but now that Caesars has gone back to charging and other parking lots looked filled on weekends, I foresee this little "perk" disappearing soon again, also. I know...........I know..........I'm bitching but bring back the good ol' days of Vegas with cheap rooms and food and generous comps. Plus no resort fees, parking charges, and other incidental crap they try to get away with. LOL

Haha. I could see problems with shows, clubs and conferences but not really dining and air travel for some Americans. Especially, for rich who own private jets and eat airplane gourmets. Those who are wealthy know what I am talking about. Uh huh, they be staying at luxury 5 star resorts during the pandemic, as much as they can.

There's no point to this post except for me to wax nostalgic for just a moment. I've led a pretty good life and traveled my fair share of the world. If I could relive one week of those travels, I'd love nothing more than to return to any one of the dozens of trips I made to Las Vegas with my wife and, eventually, family anywhere from, say, 1977 to 1983. There was nothing like it, and the city -- and especially the blackjack games -- will never, ever be the same.

My first trip to LV was probably 1984 or 1985. Man, I loved me those $1 minimum games on and near Freemont.

My first trip was in1968. I was living in San Fransisco. My family decided to meet me somewhere. Las Vegas was an obvious choice. I played & lost, but had a ball. (Since then My brothers, & I have gone once or twice a year until last year. Also had trips with my wife, and occasionally with friends, rarely alone.) Learned about counting in the 80s & have essentially broken even since switching to HOII/ASC. Have had some great memories. IMO, Don is correct. What was is no more.

sure but each whale is super value and enough of them won't play for now bc of covid- even if they aren't scared of actually getting it.
there are some true degenerates but there are also whales who the money means nothing to but like the vegas experience which is severely limited right now.
