Whitmer Shuts Down MI Casinos for Three Weeks

Okay, the MI Supreme Court ruled she was out of bounds so she had her health dept do it for her. I don't think this affects tribal casinos, but it will be interesting to see if they step in line.

Good for your governor. She has certainly shown herself to be fearless in the face of violent criminals, casino owners, and the various other moneyed and threatening interests arrayed against her. We can only hope that Nevada Gov. Sisolak does the same soon, as things are very bad here. Gov. Sisolak currently has the virus.

Could casino closings in Michigan be sign of things to come in Vegas?

It doesn't look like a lot of tribal casinos are stepping in line with the governor. Bay mills casino has a Facebook post saying they will close for three weeks. Island casino near Escanaba is saying they will be staying open even though they are located in the covid hot spot in the U.P.

She has no authority over them. They are doing it voluntarily.

And considering where they're located, they should normally shut down for the 8 month winter you guys get the anyway.

If anything, the problem is having the restaurants and bars open in them.

Only three weeks. Rivers Casino Philadelphia shut down until 1/1/2021 because of Covid 19 second wave.

Whitmer probably couldn't get away with making a longer shutdown. I'm sure if there is no improvement in 3 weeks it will be extended. This closure is a lot less severe than the lock down we had in the spring. However, in the U.P. folks are having covid fatigue. They are saying screw the closures. They want to impeach Whitmer. The U.P. is GOP territory and there are some bars that are saying they will defy the orders and stay open. By the way, on cases per million covid in the U.P. are the highest in MI.

Nevada Gov. Sisolak severely disappointed me. He essentially held a press conference to announce he is doing nothing; casinos remain open, along with just about everything else, though at a reduced capacity.
