    Illegal Casinos

    Hi Everyone,

Recently read an article on "Gambling with an Edge Las Vegas Advisor" about an illegal casino in Korea that was dealing shorted shoes and adding low cards and removing high cards. It seems that illegal casinos were prevalent in the 20th century. Do they still exist, are they viable options for card counters, and were to find out more information.

    Regards,

    Dalmatian

People get banned for posting suspicious casinos, fixed ASM, shorted shoes or added low cards, etc. You gotta have proof. On the other hand, if proof existed. Those casinos will get closed.

There's a difference between a casino cheating and an illegal casino.
If by illegal casino you mean some sort of clandestine joint in the basement of a chinese restaurant, counting cards and winning money from the person that runs it is probably never a good idea.
That's assuming you can win in the first place.

This sort of places do exist in abundance all over the world.

Was the casino illegal, or their actions?

Other than that quibble, I'd say it would depend on jurisdiction how like it would be. In most jurisdictions in the US at least, the penalties for discovery would far outweigh any advantage gained. In addition, in the age of consolidation, many if not most casinos in the US are now run by corporate entities. The corporate mentality is to be compliant with regulations (and lobby to make the regulations as favorable to the casino as possible). That's not to say it might not happen in a rogue, sawdust joint, but it would be the exceedingly rare exception, not the rule.
