Buying an Odd Lot of Stock

Usually when I buy stock it is in round lots of 100 shares. I'm thinking of buying some 3M stock, but at the current price I need about $17,000 for a 100 shares. I usually want to only put about $10,000 in any one stock. Is there any disadvantage to buying an odd lot of stock like 60 shares?

In some instances it's preferable. For example, they get preference in tender offers.
