    9-11; a day of Remembrance

My thoughts and prayers go out to all affected by 9-11 and it's been, what.......19 years now? As a city that had a similar tragedy occur (Federal Murrah bombing in OKC); my hope is neither EVER happen again to our Nation. No politics here; just want to express a sincere hope for the best in the future.

9-11 affected everyone. I recall getting up that morning watching first thing (my time zone) the carnage on tv. DHS and TSA birthed from that as well as Patriot Act etc.

Airline fees include additional security costs to help fund the above noted agencies plus others (I assume). Last year February, returning from Mexico City via Houston, needing to clear US customs On my way to Canada, and unable to go through regular scanners, I opted for pat down. The TSA guy was very thorough and I’m sure could provide accurate info on my junk. Women also have to go through similar type invasive procedures.

Terrorism, starting from before 9-11, and especially since, have changed the way we live and travel. I follow your sentiments and would add - all nations - to your comments.

Interestingly enough, on HBO now is “You Are Here: A Come From Away Story”

On 9-11, 38 (I think) international flights, forbidden from landing at US airports, landed at Gander Nfld. About 6500 international passengers were welcomed in a community of about 9000 residents. The instantaneous and well organized support with no notice was amazing.

This was also a top hit on Broadway. This was one of the great heart warming stories coming out if 9-11.

I was in Hawaii at the time and was locked down on Maui for a week. The US Navy was in port in Oahu and the ships were immediately sent out to sea so they could see what was around them. I saw this flying back to Honolulu and was told they were there to protect against further attacks as the US Government feared another attack on Pearl Harbour. A lot of businesses closed down for a while and American flags could be seen flying from windows all around the city. It was another week before I could organise a flight back to Australia.
