Canadians are fortunate to have Universal health care. In my Province of residence, and I’m sure others, we have access to our individual health records online. Every prescription, test, hospitalization and a multitude of other items are available. Further, if we become ill elsewhere within the Province, attending physicians have access to our medical records online also. What I dont know is if physicians in other Provinces can access our own Provincial health records.

In any event, as it pertains to Covid testing, Government has increasingly offered more testing. Large pharmacy chains have recently been authorized to test. My own pharmacy, a small one, as of last week has been able to test. I picked up a prescription last week, saw the announcement and tested. I was phoned this morning with the result, and then checked online.

The paste below shows the info provided. The only thing I’ve erased is the pharmacists name:

    2020/08/25 11:15 AM
    Ordered by:

    Laboratory Name:
    MILLENNIUM-LIS
    COVID-19 Test:
    Negative
    Ranges:
    - No ranges were found -
    Notes:
Information and Comments: Specimen: Swab - Throat This is a confirmed result. Method: This Nucleic Acid Testing (NAT) was performed using primers and probes targeting the E (envelope protein) gene of the COVID-19 virus (SARS-CoV-2) developed at ProvLab. Disclaimer: This method was validated at ProvLab. It has not been cleared or approved by the US FDA or Health Canada and results should be interpreted in the clinical context.

Interestingly enough, just a moment ago, I received an email from my personal physician, over a secure email network, advising of the negative result.

Vaccines aren't the be all and end all anyway. Once we have the instant test machines installed (and they are available) that can give accurate results within 15secs, that will give us a great deal more freedom to open a whole load of venues that are currently closed.

Elaborate on the avenues that open with instant test machines and 15 second results please.

Use your intellect and imagination. It ain't rocket science. They have them ready at London Heathrow airport though aren't using them at present.

Seems like an avoidance maneuver. How does testing faster help?

Instant test machines would likely be a game change. Temperature checks at the door are unreliable as you can have and spread Covid with no fever. If you can accurately test everyone entering a casino, you're safer in the casino than outside of it.

Obtaining a test result for COVid-19 more quickly leads to 1. earlier evaluation and treatment of severe illness. 2. earlier isolation. 3. earlier contact tracing.
2 & 3 lead to less disease in the population.

These benefits apply to all populations including those people who frequent casinos.

    Found an interesting article somehow

Do not count on immunity to coronavirus, experts at the University of Amsterdam warn - re-infection with COVID-19 is possible within the first year after recovery. Serological tests for antibodies to SARS-COV-2 show: up to 80% of people carry the disease almost asymptomatically, without even knowing about it. In this regard, the scientific community is discussing the possibility of the formation of collective immunity - an effect in which immunity to infection is developed in most of the society, which reduces the overall epidemiological burden. Vaccination works according to this principle - immunity not only protects against infection but also reduces the risk of spreading infection because if a person does not become infected himself, he will not infect others.
In some countries, the possibility of introducing an "immune passport" for those who have been ill with COVID-19 is being considered, it would allow weakening social distancing measures for those who have antibodies to the virus in their blood. However, if the virus can be re-infected, herd immunity will not develop and this approach will be useless. To see the future, the researchers analyzed the medical records of ten people who contracted at least one seasonal strain of coronavirus between 1985 and 2020.
The results were disappointing: six months after recovery, the concentration of antibodies in the blood dropped significantly, and within a year there were frequent cases of re-infection.

It is not yet clear how long the immunity to SARS-COV-2 will last, but given the behavior of other coronaviruses, the picture is unlikely to be very different. Also, in this case, you will need not a single injection of the vaccine, but an annual one.

Oren Kobiller, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Tel Aviv University School of Medicine, notes: “We know that people can contract coronaviruses from time to time. One question is how long the immunity to SARS-COV-2 will last compared to other coronaviruses. But the question is better - will the immunity be sterile or non-sterile. "
Sterile immunity means that a person cannot become infected again. With non-sterile immunity, a person can become infected, but the disease will pass in a mild form.
“Sterile immunity is not required,” says Cobiller. “With non-sterile immunity, you can get infected again, but get sick for a couple of days with symptoms of a common cold, without complications, and that would be enough for all of us.”
