I used Blackjackapprenticeship.com and found it very beneficial.

I spent 2 to 3 hours training daily. And played in the casino after 1 month.

It's has a very active forum with many new players, has easy to read charts, and the training software is great.

If you decide to not use Blackjackapprenticeship.com, I would recommend the book Professional Blackjack by Stanford Wong.

I would recommend BJA for your first year counting. Colin is easy to reach and helpful with all members but especially newbies. The content and fellowship are hands down worth the money invested. I’m a winning player and have been for going on 3 years. I am convinced I developed great habits and strategy using that site. You can read all you want but BJA will help bring the game to life for you

I am not an AP, but have more or less learned how to count cards via this website, Dons BJA3, and Casino Verite. Only been doing it for about 6 months and obviously Covid has interrupted it, but you can certainly learn on your own (ie, without BJA). However, casino verite is virtually a must, IMO.

Edit: should also add the podcast Gambling with an Edge as a resource in my studies.

While very very helpful, it isn't quite "a must."

And although I've never used it, I would highly recommend it.

Unlike this forum, the BJA forum has few long term pros on it. Fact is that while the teaching of the count and play is good, very few can last more than 10+ years. If you learn well, you can win at local casinos, 1-5 years at best. The site does not tolerate anyone cautioning newbies to not borrow money, not quit school or jobs, not go full time. Some here have been banned there. Many buy into the crap there and based upon, 1-5 years playing, think it’s time to go full time. The losers are not allowed to post there.

Hey Zee, was not trying to steer anyone into buying into some “crap”, but I did want to offer the OP my opinion on a good experience with BJA. I used that site my first year and I found it very helpful. The pros on that site are enthusiastic and helpful towards anyone asking questions on basically anything blackjack or bj related. Honestly I’m confused with some of your comments regarding the irresponsible advice you say is going on there. I have not witnessed anything remotely close. BJA takes allot of shit on the forums but I have nothing but good things to say.

The few pros who counseled against a few things that relative newbies were doing were quickly suppressed or politely banned. As examples, newbies (players who learned to count, had some success in local casinos) expressed that they were considering or had indeed quit their job/college, others were talking about loans/borrowing against equity to get a bankroll. When any suggestions that they delay that decision, consider a longer period of apprenticeship or cautioned against turning full time professional were expressed, the forum member was quietly “disappeared” (banned).

If Colin was to provide every post I made before I was banned (there are a few others here that were also banned), you would find me expressing my opinion that turning full time based upon a few months or a years success was a huge mistake. You simply cannot average $30 an hour playing part time BJ, quit their $15 an hour full time job by extrapolating your success or assume that if you can make $30 an hour playing at a $10 min. game, that it’s time to get a loan and play $25 tables at $75 an hour.

Words of caution were not tolerated.

This forum has officially gone off the rails, again.

Zee just offered some good advice. What do you have to offer besides criticism?

Seems like good advice to me.

I agree with much of what you said. I play part time(200-300hrs) a year and have been through swings 40% of my roll at 1%. ROR. I usually ask myself how anyone can do this full time. Not sure why your advice was not taken well, I’m sorry to hear that. Especially if it was coming from a good place trying to help the newbies. There are different climates for different forums I guess.

    I’ll offer Colin assistance.

I’ll suggest he include the FBM ASC Basic into is tool box of tricks. Of course, good things come at a cost.
