    Team play illegal ?

    Hi,

I was wondering if two players where only one is counting and the other one waiting for opportunities and betting when the first one is giving him signals would be illegal Under the american law ?
I should add that the player betting big doesn't know how to count.

    thank you

If counting isn't illegal, why would someone not counting, be considered as doing something illegal?

I don't see how that would be considered illegal! It would definitely bring more attention to you, I would think, and while not illegal, casinos still don't like it!

No, it's perfectly legal and is a common form of team play, referred to as Gorilla Big Player. The counter at the table is the "controller." Naturally, stating that this is perfectly legal doesn't mean the casinos are going to just sit back and let you do it to your heart's content. They aren't.

I really thank you for the quick replies especially Don.
I just wanted to make sure cause in Wikipedia if you do a search for card counting it says :
Card counting is not illegal under British law, nor is it under federal, state, or local laws in the United States provided that no external card counting device or person assists the player in counting cards. Still, casinos object to the practice, and try to prevent it, banning players believed to be counters.

“Person assists” the player in counting cards
What does it mean for you ? That make me hesitate...

    Thank you

I believe the sense of "external person" here is someone perhaps not immediately on the premises and who is using some sort of technology to monitor the action at the table through a camera or other device. It definitely does NOT mean someone who simply walks up to the table and who was already on the premises of the casino in the vicinity of the table.

    Are you French?
