That's not exactly the whole story. You asked a difficult question that would require substantial effort to answer. I told you my best guess at the answer to your question, so I didn't just cut you off cold. There is an entire second part to that email that you are omitting. I am sorry if the message that it was a difficult question, beyond the scope of what I wanted to do, was not clear from my email.

Now, I will ask you, if you want to send me any emails in the future, and you are more than welcome to do so, please keep them confidential. Just as I respect the confidentiality of those who email me, no matter the side of the table, it is only reasonable that an AP would do the same. I get lots of emails from AP's, all the time. The vast majority are kind are courteous, as was yours. If AP's start asking me questions and then publishing my responses on open boards, things may change.

Max is a character, that's for sure. He approached me at G2E in 2011 and told me quite clearly, Eliot, you are the shitstorm of G2E this year. That was just after I published my article on card counting the Dragon 7 side bet on Shackleford's site. Max has very few limits on what he says or does. If that has served him then I am happy for him.

Thanks. BJZ is out of print. My publisher passed away in 2019 and I have not yet bothered to re-publish the book.

Sadly, toxic and trolling posts are the mainstay of gambling boards of all types. I've been subjected to it for years (over 20) and I used to take it personally. After a few years of lurking I realized that's just how it is. AP's troll. This board is certainly no exception.

Norm once posted a brilliant bit of advice for running a blackjack message board: DON'T.

    Ok, then I will explain..

If about 100 of the best BJ minds in the world converge to the BJ Ball in january of every year, is it possible that they found an answer to the question Dbs6582 won't be able to answer for years? If you really ask yourself: I've never understood why Max Rubin seems to get a pass from APs?

You either believe that these BJ minds are idiots looking for great hospitality or you should understand that if they're not, you're missing something in the equation.

If you still ask yourself the question, it means you're stupid enough to believe in the former.

I call it the "Barry Horowitz Experience."

If you know who he is, give yourself a "pat on the back."

G Man, you didn't disappoint me. I knew I'd get at least one post calling (or implying) I'm stupid. I knew someone would come through. And, yes, that was sarcasm.

I'm not the only person that has brought up this hypocrisy within the AP community. I've seen where other APs have said Max Rubin gets a pass that wouldn't be afforded to other APs if they did the same thing, and switched sides to the casinos.

It sounds like you're saying all someone has to do is give "100 of the best BJ minds in the world" a good meal and play to their egos once a year and then the AP community will give that person a pass. Btw, that doesn't put these people in a very good light, so I'm hoping there is more to it than that.

Note that Max Rubin not only manages Barona, but he also consults for many casinos including Hilton, Mirage, and Harrah's. Look, I see nothing wrong with that. I haven't met Max, but I've heard him on several podcasts and he seems like a great guy. I agree with what he says on the podcasts.

I feel the same way about Eliot, but what I've noticed with Eliot is he seems to get attacked more on podcasts, and I've seen it on some forums. And to be honest with you I don't understand the double standard.

Based on what you're telling me, I guess the take away is Eliot needs to give "the best BJ minds in the world" a nice meal and honor them once a year and he'll get a pass too. Again, that was a little sarcasm.

Norm I would love to have you explain this just a bit more. To me it appears to be a tautology, so what are you saying here?

I think it's clear. Don't try to read any subtext into plain wording.

Okay, I have no idea what you are talking about. I respect you beyond measure for what you have contributed over the years.

My take here is that Don has been trolling me. I don't know why. But he has been doing exactly that. Trolls are those who invade threads, side track them onto some irrelevant topic where they can attempt to show someone is wrong about something having nothing to do with the topic of the thread. They use the usual tactics, in base and sad ways, but in the end, just look pathetic to the objective observer.

So yes, your good friend Don is a troll. That is what he's been for years. Everyone knows it. Few speak up about it. I'm glad to say exactly this because I don't care. I have no dogs in this race, your forum means very little to me except to the extent that I can answer questions directed towards my work in honest and straightforward ways, providing valuable content.

    Your choice, content or trolls.

So that's about it. Either ban me and delete everything I've posted, or give me some protection from trolls. Or maybe, as Ghandi, find a third way.

I have a lot to share, I'm glad to answer questions, always have been. But, to be attacked randomly just to score points with some fictitious community ... well, that is not subtext.

Think about how you have reacted when you have been attacked in threads on various websites. Is it worth it for me to be here and try and give something to you?

    Peace, friend.

About Blackjack: The Forum

BJTF is an advantage player site based on the principles of comity. That is, civil and considerate behavior for the mutual benefit of all involved. The goal of advantage play is the legal extraction of funds from gaming establishments by gaining a mathematic advantage and developing the skills required to use that advantage. To maximize our success, it is important to understand that we are all on the same side. Personal conflicts simply get in the way of our goals.
