BJA 3....I'm sick thinking of all the mistakes I made!!

First and foremost is a huge Thank You to Don! I am forever grateful that you were so persistent in learning, that you did all the hard work. Now people like me just have to read the books, and of course put in the time learning a system we can implement in the casinos. I should have read this book before I played, I knew there was more to learn than just basic strategy, hi-lo count, deviations, and betting strategy.....what I didn't realize was just how much more there was/is to learn. I started playing at the end of last year and I don't even want to know how much I could've lost if it weren't for positive variance. I am excited to get back to the tables (when possible) and kick some ass!

“I should have read before I played this game” is like saying I should have completed my PH’d before going to work. Most people work as they study/learn and complete there studies.

If you truly are upset at the thought of leaving money on the table and committed to flawless play and study (not technically you don't need to be perfect but its best to practice as if you do) then you are on your way to long term success. best wishes!

I disagree, if you can learn before working, you have a much better chance of making more money. However if you start working before you know how to do the job...you are not going to make as much. If you have a choice...it's a smart play to learn first.

I suggest you study/learn English....if you are going to Quote someone, you should do it correctly...and it's "complete their studies" not "complete there studies". How do people not know the difference??????

This is so silly. You are at your optimum when you have knowledge and experience. Get both together...do internships or work on campus while you study and graduate.

Regarding things like learning all about casino comportment through books alone, will not cut it, you are sadly mistaken. Only learning through live practical experience over a period of years can you learn the knowledge required to not get thrown out on a regular basis.

Obviously, you would disagree with a famous quote by Lincoln, which has an analogy here: "Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the ax."

    And, Lincoln was no dope.

Sadly, in doing a bit of research, I found out that this quote is actually apocryphal. And, at the bottom of page 162 of BJA3, where I first learned of it from John Auston, he gave a somewhat shortened one hour/45 minutes version of it. If we ever reprint the book, I'm going to have to correct it!

Don, the Lincoln quote on page 162 that John Auston used was in reference for players to always look for the best game in relation to SCORE. Whereby giving the player the best chance to win more money by playing to the highest EV possible. Of course every new player needs to learn that quickly early on. Now who is more likely to actually follow through with that expert advice given. Someone with knowledge and practical experience, or someone who read the book thoroughly but with very little playing time?
