New at counting and not sure which CV software I need

I see that there are several different casino verite options, but I'm not sure which ones I will really need. I want software to practice, track my results, analyze my play, and analyze rule variations I come across with different types of blackjack games like bj switch, free bet, etc. I'm not math oriented or a data junkie.

I'm also wondering how much I can do with the app vs. the full software.

    Thanks for any help!

    Hi and welcome.

Just from a user's perspective, i would definitely start off with three things: for your laptop CVBJ the full game simulator, CVCX which is key to optimizing your bet spread and betting ramp, and for your phone the Blackjack Verite Drills. For each of these i honestly suggest the full paid versions, because the free demos are fun but they are mathematically compromised demos.

CV Blackjack I have on my laptop. The app Blackjack Verite Games might do ok on a tablet, but i don't like it on my phone because my phone screen is too small. The full laptop CVBJ is absolutely AMAZING and mandatory for playing against rules anywhere in the world. It configures any BJ or Spanish 21. I haven't tried to configure Switch or FreeBet on it because they are losing odds. I developed a pretty good system for Free Bet, and WizardOfOdds has a good one for Switch, but i would Boycott these games financially.

CVCX is ideal for fine tuning your betting plan to the type of game and your counting strategy, and determining your SCORE. Most any published classic strategy is already selectable, as in CVBJ, with complete indices and tag values. You can input your own too, but it is a little time consuming.

I think you can get CVBJ and CVCX as a package with some savings. I had bought mine years apart.

Blackjack Verite Drills is an app for Android tablets or phones. It's got the right drills that you need. Once i came across a table playing 6 decks but using an eight-deck discard tray, which messed with my eyes. So i went to a nearby restroom, configured my phone app for that arrangement, and practiced calculating "half-decks remaining" for a few minutes. Then went back to that table a confidently raked in the dough.

That's my suggestion. I'm sure Norm will be getting online shortly, he is the owner and developer of Casino Vérité. He's an excellent AP and an excellent guy. He can answer any details you may want to know.

Enjoy. Hope all the casinos open again soon and everyone stays healthy. Where do you play (but don't give yourself away)?

    Cheers,
    Ole

Thanks for the advice! So it sounds like I'll be good if I just get CV Blackjack and CVCX for my laptop?

As far as the phone apps go, does Blackjack Verite Games include a practice mode, or is that feature only in the drills app?

Once it's safe to go back to normal life I'll be able to hit up games anywhere in the US that's close to a major airport.

If you are a beginner and counting is the only technique you deal with, CVBJ and CVCX (for doing simulations of a counting system with fixed playing strategy, i.e. fixed indexes for deviating from Basic Strategy, in order to create an optimal betting strategy for various counts) should be sufficient.

CVData is for more advanced stuff like creating optimal indexes for a specific counting system, hole carding, next carding etc. CVShuffle is for shuffle tracking (zone tracking and ace sequencing), which are more sophisticated and complex techniques going beyond counting.

The drills app only has drills. CVBJ for Android allows you to play with one or two players and is great for practice, especially since you really want to play head to head with the dealer if possible...other players cost you $ by eating up good cards in + counts. It also allows you to set the rules for just about any blackjack game you can find and practice with more types of counts than you would probably use in live play (so does the drills app). I use both on my cell, very convenient for practice playing with one and drilling with the other.

I prefer CV Data for my laptop. If you purchase it, Norm can give you a key for CVCX, or at least he used to.

@ Norm, do you still provide a key for CVCX if you purchase CV Data?

I guess I'm confused. What's the difference between practice play and drills?

Practice play = simulated dealt hands requiring you to make surrender, split, double down, hit, stand decisions, keep a running count...and convert to true count if your count requires you to use a true count...and make betting decisions based on either the running count or true count depending on which count you are using.

Drills = depth estimation drills (where you observe an image of a discard tray and have to correctly estimate how many decks, half decks, or quarter decks are remaining to play), count drills (where you just practice counting), flash drills (where you count and then have to make a correct playing decision), etc.

It's nice to have the option, for example, of practicing depth estimation drills alone if you have identified deck estimation as an area needing improvement.

At the minimum get Casino Vertie. It is great software and will help you learn at a faster rate.

If you have the funds buy a bundle package you will save some money and have software you will need in the future.

The only negative thing is you have to use a pc for the full program. They do make apps for iPad.

I wished casino vertie full program could run on a Mac. I understand why they don’t do to apples poor policy of software.

I run CV in a Windows virtual machine on Mac, using Virtual Box, free from Oracle

    ok, that said...
I am a retired computer programmer. I've been working on a suite of blackjack player, exploration, and analytical tools forever.
I can answer your questions or you can use my software. It's free.
ok. That's as far as I intend to go right now.
If I can, I will give you answers that I can back up with data.

Is it permitted to exchange email addresses here or post URLs? (probably not...most BJ sites are very...well, they don't like that)

If you are interested in running a sim and comparing results to CVData I have the full suite and would be willing to compare outputs. Cross comparison of programs seems like a low cost way to verify results. Assume, Norm is ok with comparing results?

You don't play blackjack do you? I find it curious when you state: "So, in order to realize a "1" True Count in the first 26 cards dealt, the dealer must deal a "6" Running Count...rather unlikely," as if getting a rash of small cards to come out at any time, including at the top of the shoe, is something that we really can rarely expect to see.

By the way, just me, but I hate charts like these. It's virtually impossible to know what any of the precise values are.
