Covid-19 poll

Assume 2 things: 1. It will take more than a year for a vaccine to be created, tested and readily available, 2. The economy will be re-started in the knowledge that there will be further deaths due to covid-19

The poll question is: WHAT PERCENTAGE OF THE GENERAL PUBLIC THAT CONTRACT THE VIRUS WOULD YOU BE WILLING TO LET DIE TO KEEP THE ECONOMY FROM COLLAPSING ?

1. <= 2%
2. >2% <= 3%
3. >3% <= 5%
4. >5% <= 10%
5. >10%

Really need a lower bound of like .25% or less. 2% annual excess deaths would be devastating to the economy, so the question is a false premise anyway.

Bear in mind the Spanish flu epidemic killed anywhere from 20 to 50 million of the 500 million that contracted it. That's between 4% and 10%.

Unfortunately the 2 issues cannot be separated. Economy is affected negatively by fear and uncertainty and positively by consumer confidence.

I have no idea what you are trying to say. Normally I'd suspect you might be trying to insult me, but am not sure because I would think that a person of your stature in the community would have more class than that. I don't want anyone to die from this virus. People that are the most susceptible to this disease should be self quarantining. I was just making a counterpoint to the argument in the original poll.

He is asking if you would be prepared to die for the sake of the economy. He is also suggesting that you might be prepared to sacrifice your mother to achieve the same goal. Tough choices which might be appreciated by your neighbours should the need for such action arise.

I don't want anyone to die. I'm perfectly willing to stay home if that is what is needed. My point is, there are a lot of people living pay check to pay check and worse. If they are unable to make a living what are they going to do? You also can't force people to stay home very long before you start getting serious problems. Hell most big cities can't even win a sports championship without rioting afterward.

Currently less than 1 percent of the US population dies every year; as long as it remains less than 1 percent per year, and there is a good chance it will remain below 1 percent for 2020 even with the COVID-19 situation, it's fine by me.
