I don't know if your situation is like mine (which I think is ideal), but if it is, here is how I work it. There are approximately 30 casinos within an approximately a 5-6 hour drive from home. I put all of them in my rotation and stay no more than an hour at any one (up or down, the cards don't know where I am playing)...many times even less if a shoe produces a >$100 win. I love it when a dealer tells me "Hit it and quit it, that's what I'd do."

I only play once or twice a month, so the rotation and short sessions combine to make me less memorable since I'm not at any one place very often. I also change my appearance every six months and many people I know do not recognize me at first glance after a change. The place I was milking for comps dried up, so now they are at the bottom of my rotation list. Since I was playing for comps, they know who I am. It will probably be over a year before I go back; when I do it will be on a different shift so I will try to play unrated there from now on.

I don't worry about cover or ratholing; I do frontcount and Wong out and occasionally backcount; use spreads between 1:8 and 1:20 depending on table minimum; and buy in for 10 units of the table minimum or less (5 units if backcounting) with small bills. I'm sure some day I'll get the tap, but it has not happened yet; I've been counting for about 3 years.

I believe that both quotes are the same thing.
But I want to know who's on first? Abbott & Costello.

@ BoSox: According to Vancura and Fuchs, Knock Out Blackjack, page 99, frontcounting is when you start playing the first hand of a shoe and Wong out if the count goes negative. Backcounting is when you start counting the first hand of the shoe and Wong in and start playing if the count goes positive. While both use the count and Wonging to avoid playing during negative counts, they are different tactics.

Although everything above is correct, the problem is that the term "front count(ing)" has never caught on. No one ever uses it or writes it ... ever.
Backcounting and Wonging (in) are used interchangeably, but "front counting" simply doesn't exist. You describe what you're doing as Wonging out.

BACK counting is logical: you stand behind the backs of players and you count. FRONT counting simply makes no sense.

I took front to mean you start playing at the front (beginning) of the shoe. While the term front counting did not become popular, when interpreted in relation to starting play at the front of the shoe, would make perfect sense.

I guess Vancura and Fuchs are "nobodies"...and they never wrote the following...

    front
    /fr?nt/
    noun
    1. the side or part of an object that presents itself to view or that is normally seen or used first; the most forward part of something.

And then there's this from another "nobody" ...page 119, Fred Renzy, Blackjack Bluebook II.

I'm really not going to argue language with you. Just not worth it to me. All I can do is guarantee you, with 100% certainty, that, in coining the term, they had absolutely no intention to refer to the "front" of the shoe! Makes no sense at all.

They created what is called a "retronym" (look it up), similar to the need to talk about analog watches, once digitals were invented. So, already having BACK-counting, they decided to be cute and refer to the opposite concept, namely Wonging OUT, instead of Wonging IN, as FRONT-counting. They're entitled to call it whatever the hell the want; I'm simply telling you that not a single person on the face of the earth calls it that ... except them, and now you.

Many use the term and put it in writing.

All I want to know is when you have a really bad trip and then when you arrive back home do you try to enter your house from the front door entrance or the back door? Or possibly by trying, either way, you still cannot get in as the locks have all been changed?

Okay, I guess you get in through the Bilco basement door. While you are in the basement you can practice your front counting.

When I come home from a blackjack trip, I always enter thru the garage door. You know, I press the little button on the remote, and presto the garage door opens and in I go.
